Episode #05: Triomphe Torture Test

Almost by accident, I discovered that Clairefontaine Triomphe stationary has near superpowers for resisting feathering and bleedthrough. My photographer, Rebekah Goldman, and I were messing around with some 'artsy' shots trying to get a picture of ink drops coming out of the nib of a fountain pen and falling in mid-air. In doing this, we obviously ended up with a puddle of ink on the paper, which we found wasn't feathering or bleeding through at all, even with an entire pen's worth of ink on it for nearly 30 minutes at a time. It was incredible, so I wanted to replicate it in this video.

Watch as I take and basically dump a puddle of ink from my pen onto the ever-popular Clairefontaine Triomphe stationary paper and some cheap Georgia Pacific copy paper I pulled out of my printer. You will be amazed at the different reactions you'll see between the cheap paper and the Triomphe.

The full line of Clairefontaine Triomphe stationery is available at The Goulet Pen Company, as well as other fine retailers.

  1. Brian, I have been enjoying your video blog and hope you continue with it. It would be nice if you used a lower resolution video or a different host as even with my mediun fast DSL service the videos stream very slowly and the stop and start watching is very distracting.

    Thanks, Paul

  3. Thank you....elegant? Wow, i'm rarely called elegant ;) Paul, I'm actually looking into the lower resolution vids, for precisely that reason. I should have a solution for that soon.

  4. Please use a decent video host like youtube because whoever you are using are rubbish.

Skipping ahead is glitchy and it takes forever to load.

  6. Thomas....point taken! I've been searching HIGH and LOW to find the perfect player, and I haven't found one. YouTube is great, but I'll have to chop all my videos to under 10 minutes, and that'll take me a little work and time. Be patient, and I'll have them up on YouTube (and embedded on here) as soon as I can!

  7. Episode #05 based on You Tube plays without any hesitation.
As with other episodes, the movie is very nicely done, great music and narration, outstanding shots and, first of all, amazing content.

Is there an Oscar category for Fountain Pen Movies? I've got a nomination... :-)

  10. Haha that is awesome. And you know, your cursive is better in this video than one that was dated 2011 "Clairefontaine Triomphe Overview" http://www.gouletpens.com/Articles.asp?ID=384, which is kind of confusing. But this was a fun experiment to watch and kinda sells me on Rhodia and Clairefontaine paper.
