About a month ago, I decided to start carrying Rhodia pencils, admittedly not knowing a great deal about fine pencils. As soon as the first few pencil-wielding customers of mine noticed them, I began getting requests for other types of fine pencils as well.
The two most popular fine pencils I’ve been asking about are Faber-Castell ‘Perfect Pencils’ and California Republic Palomino pencils. Not only have people been asking about them, but Quo Vadis blog actually posted about the Faber-Castell Perfect Pencils just the other day, as well.
I posted a response to the blog, and brought up the California Republic Palominos. I got yet another response saying I should carry them. I’ve contacted them and am finding out more about their products and the retailing process, and I’ll keep you all up to date about how that goes. California Republic is a large manufacturer of pencil slats mainly for the use of other premium pencil makers. They produce genuine, high-grade incense cedar blanks, and the Palomino line is the premium line they sell. Their focus has been more on selling to other companies, and doing private label products (getting your company or brand name stamped on the pencils).
There are a few California Republic Palomino sellers out there, though they’re hard to find. It seems to be a popular enough product for people to ask for them by name, but yet they are lacking in availability for online sellers. I wish I could say more about them, but I’ve never used them myself (yet). I’m simply speaking on behalf of those who do use them that they are good quality pencils.
So the real purpose of this blog is to try to find out who out there uses fine pencils, and what do you like to use?
