Ink Nouveau #29- Goulet Pen Co. Swab Shop!

The Swab Shop at the Goulet Pen Company has been a big hit, and for good reason. Over 160 colors (and growing) of ink swabs done on both white and ivory paper, with a glass pen and Q-tip, that are all scanned and color profiled for optimum accuracy in an easy-to-use tool that allows you to compare up to 5 colors as once. Who wouldn’t love that?

This project was a major undertaking for me, just see my other post about it. 150+ hours involving 4 individuals each using their expertise, all to provide a free tool to help you compare ink colors. The idea came to me when I drastically expanded my initial ink offering, from 38 colors to over 160. I could hardly differentiate colors myself, let alone someone new to fountain pens. So I knew in order to provide the best service and enhance everyone’s writing experience that this Swab Shop was something I simply had to do! It turned out great, and has been a blast even for me to play around with! This will undoubtedly be a useful tool for years to come, and will only become more powerful as the list of inks expands, which it will, ongoing! Be sure to check it out for yourself.

this is remarkable project and I applaud your commitment to provide a uniquely valuable service. Also hope you sell a bunch of inks. I wish I had known about your swabs before making a recent purchase, Herbin Saphir turned out to be way too dark for my tastes but I'm stuck with a nearly full bottle.
If you are looking for feedback, I have a suggestion.
From a new user's POV, the interface you have created relies on prior knowledge. I am not familiar with the brands and their esoteric color names,
A button like "I'm feeling lucky" would make exploring your swabs more interesting. Say a visitor could push this button and get a drop-down that clusters random swabs of a color family like bright orange, dark blue, gray, green, pink, deep red, bright red, waterproof. Selecting a color family would display a 3×3 grid of random swabs in that family.

I'm just a fountain pen user–I do not have the slightest idea what it takes to set up that kind of interactivity and I'm not suggesting you do anything to your site. More to the point: I will enjoy visiting the Swab Shop dozens of time, pushing your buttons, and going ooh and ahhh as I narrow down my next few purchases.

And I will be only too glad order them from Goulet..
