Replacement J. Herbin 1670 caps available

I’ve been informed that Exaclair (the sole US J. Herbin importer) has possession of replacement wax dipped caps for the 1670 ink bottles. The first batch of the inks had a brittle wax that would crack off to reveal the metal cap underneath. Not so sexy. If you’re interested in getting a new replacement cap for your bottle of 1670 from the original batch, just email me to let me know and I’ll get you a new cap. I am going to have a bunch on hand, but if I get more requests for them I’ll work with Exaclair about getting more.  I don’t know at this point if there’s any cost involved.

  • I thought wax caps were melted on and secured (tightly molding). What would one do with a replacement cap?

  • The original ones were melted on, which is why they cracked when you opened them. The new ones are waxed only on the cap itself, so it can easily be removed or replaced while keeping the wax on the cap intact. It has the same look as the old bottle, but won't crack the wax!
