Write Time at 9: March 30, 2011

We experienced technical difficulties with Ustream this week, which caused us not to be able to record our broadcast. We had a fan record it, but it appears to have been removed from YouTube. We're sorry everyone!

This week we were plagued with technical issues. On Tuesday we tried to broadcast but couldn't get audio, so we rescheduled for Wednesday. In order to work around the audio issue, we weren't able to record it (or so we thought!). Please excuse our informality - we tend to be a little 'looser' when we aren't being recorded. This was like a 2 hour super bonus time!

A few highlights from the broadcast:
  • April's Ink Drop theme is..... Easter Egg Hunt! More details to come through the blog.
  • We showed some of the Pilot pens we now carry, and discussed which converters fit which pens.
  • We showed some of the Lamy pens we now carry, and talked about what other styles are coming soon.
  • Rachel demonstrated how to use the Pilot Parallel pens to achieve gradiated colors.
  • Dispelled some of the rumors regarding Noodler's pens being made by Chelpark
  • Updated timelines for new and out-of-stock items, like Noodler's flex pens and music pens, new Sailor inks, Habanas, Rhodia products, etc.
  • Talked about upcoming video blogs
  • Announced that we'll be interviewing Nathan Tardiff on an upcoming Write Time at 9... more details to come

Join us live next Tuesday at 9pm EDT.

    1. You forgot the disclaimer for any price quotes that "may or may not" appear in the broadcast :P

    2. Easter egg hunt? I hope you'll explain it on the letter that comes with the Ink Drop for those of us who don't get it

    3. I'm sure no one gets it at this point. It's one of those things where if we elaborate at all it will ruin the surprise. Don't worry! We'll explain more when the time is right.

    4. Haha! Yes, of course. Rachel was a little mistaken there with the Falcon pricing! :P Our website is what you should go off of!

    5. I'm so glad you managed to split these into 8 videos! I never have time to see your show live so I watch the recording over a few days. Much easier to view this way.

    6. Hehe, I was coming from more of a 'not all of us have Easter as part of our traditions so why would anyone hunt eggs?' kinda view point!

    7. Ah, okay, I guess I was assuming everyone knew what it meant! Well, for many in the US, it's a tradition to hide small plastic eggs filled with candy for children to find, and it's called an Easter Egg Hunt. I won't elaborate exactly how this is related to this month's theme because I don't want to spoil it (no pun intended!).

    8. Such a little edit field, so much to say ;)

      1. Easter egg hunt. I know what the surprise is, but I am not sure a rifle will go through customs ;)
      2. This was a fantastic Write Time! Especially as both of you were more loose than normal and more willing to go on tangents. Brilliant.
      3. I (personally) would be sad if you didn't record it in future, as being there live is not an option for me. (Your 9pm is my 3am and I have to get up at 5am, brr)
      4. A podcast would not be the same, it would be clinical in comparison. Of course I might be wrong, I usually am :)
      5. I love the idea of the Vanishing Point, but it is not for me. Mine was last inked up a year ago. However, the quality is very high. It is a bit better than the Lamy Dialog 3, as the D3 always dries up over night. The D3 has the better design though and it fits my hand like a glove.
      6. I cannot praise the Lamy gold nibs enough, they are butter smooth and a little bit springy, it is heaven.
      7. The Lamy 2k would have deserved a bit more time, IMHO it is one of the best pens out there. However one needs to take the time to get to know the nib, the first two weeks with my first 2k were hell, but after that plain sailing :)
      8. I adore the gradation Rachel achieved with the Parallel pens, that is simply gorgeous! Guess what is on my to buy list now? ;)
      9. I love the idea of the First Look Videos for pens and inks. The best review sometimes drowns the important corner points. I have seen reviews of inks like Private Reserve Shoreline Gold (one of my all time favourites), where they wrote 3 pages about this ink, but forgot to mention the shading... A "Corner Stones Review" is a good idea in my book.
      10. You almost had me convinced to get a facebook account, however I did that once, looked at the privacy preferences and then deleted my account again. I am paranoid, so no facebook for me.
      11. The rest I forgot to mention now, which will come to my mind the second this post is sent ;)

      Wishing you the very best
      Sven

    9. GREAT feedback Sven, thank you! We're going to spend more time on the Lamy 2000 in the future. It did get a little overshadowed with everything else going on.

We were a little more laid back, I think because we had to be. We were so thrown off with having to reschedule the broadcast, change the way we do the broadacst, etc, that we just had to kind of go with the flow. Talking live (especially when recording) is a bit nerve racking, because we're always so worried about saying the wrong number or something and confusing people. It's really tough to talk live and get everything right, so it makes us a little tense. I think last night we were a little looser because we weren't so worried about the recording. We CLEARLY misspoke on some things (like the metal Namiki prices!), but they're easy enough to correct. I think if we feel it's okay to say a few dumb things here and there, we can be a lot more laid back in future broadcasts.

We most certainly want to continue recording Write Time. It's a lot of fun, and we know it's not convenient for everyone to show up live. Heck, it's hard enough for us to! ;) We're having to investigate all new technology for broadcasting now, so it may be a bit rocky for a few weeks, but we'll get things running smooth again soon.

    10. You're welcome.

    11. Giving out wrong information because you don't know better off the top of your head in this context isn't that bad, as you always pointed out, that the correct information is available through gouletpens.com.
For me Write Time is a bit like meeting a seller in a different setting, while out walking, or something to that effect. I can't expect each and every detail to be correct, that is for the shop, but getting new info and seeing the reaction to products mentioned is priceless, as you learn so much more.

    12. Cool. That's pretty much what it is. Even though we schedule the broadcast and come up with some loose topics, we purposely don't 'plan' too much because we want to have that laid back feel about the broadcast. We like just sitting back and talking about the cool stuff we've been involved in lately, it makes our excitement come across better :)

    13. Hmmmmm . . . the video seems to be gone :(

    14. You're right :( This was the one week we had technical issues and weren't able to record it....we had a fan record it on his own then post it on his YouTube account, but it appears to be gone now. I'll try to contact him and see if he has it saved somewhere, otherwise I'm afraid it'll be gone forever :(
