Noodler's Flex Pens are available right now at GouletPens.com!

The wait is over, Noodler's Flex pens are available!

Clear and Lapis are already gone. We had some technical stuff going on with our site due to sheer overload of traffic on our site. We have a beefed-up server, but it was still stressed to its max! Things are running better now, so let us know if there are still any issues with your checking out.

We're working harder than ever before right now to straighten out any order changes and ship out as quickly as we can. If you're trying to call us right now, you'll get our voicemail. We're on the phone with our web host support to work out any kinks with the site, so we will have to call or email you back.

Just from my initial impression from this release, it's overwhelming! We've had a greater response than we even thought. Due to the sheer traffic we've had on our site, we're already considering ways to improve things for the next release, though honestly, we're hoping things don't get this crazy again! We know Nathan's working on redoing the feeds, which have been the holdup in these pens so far. Hoepfully, the next batch of flex pens will be much sooner and more available than these ones.

A special thanks to everyone who's been so incredibly patient. We're working as fast as we can to get your orders packed up and out the door, but this will require patience all around. Thanks for making today so great, so crazy, so hectic!

  1. I was expecting some slowdown on the site before I even started.  I just didn't know how bad it would be.  Luckily nothing timed out, it just took a really long time to load.  I was able to get in my order in at around 1:15, so I'm happy. :)

I would be interested in some numbers just for curiosity sake... Like how many pens how fast, website visitors at 1pm, etc.

  2. +1 for the numbers!

  3. I'm really glad to see I'm not to late. I really wanted the Cardinal and the Pumpkin, and I was split on the other two. I was planning to buy 3 pens, never 4. I was stuck away from a computer with my Palm Pre all afternoon and figured for sure I had missed out. As it turns out, I just missed out on the Lapis, which is just fine because I like the Coral just as well. My pens are ordered and will soon be on their way to my nearby address. Thanks, Goulets!

  4. Yeah, the slowdown was something we feared, but didn't want to 'expect'. We have the most robust serve and bandwidth available with our web host, so we were literally 'maxed out'! I won't share numbers, but I will say we broke all out previous records today (and the day's not done!). It's been a very excited, terrifying, and rollercoaster emotional day for Rachel and I, and the work has only just begun for us. Thanks for making this such a great day :)

  5. Though I won't say numbers, I will say the clear pens sold out in about 3 minutes, the Lapis went next at about 1 hour, the others are all still in, but I don't know for how long. Even with my highest expectations, I didn't think they'd go so fast. I'm blown away. I will be buried in the shop packing feverishly the rest of the week, through the weekend, and likely into next week!!

  6. I know, everyone wants numbers ;) I won't say specifics, but I'll say that we're more than pleased (except for the technical issues) with how today has gone. About the technical stuff though, it all seems to be resolved now. Thank Rachel and her awesomeness!

  7. I'm sure Goulet HQ will be absolutely abuzz. Try to remember to eat, sleep, and do those other things nature requires!

  8. Haha, thanks for your concern! We'll be okay. After all, 'it's just pens', right? ;)

  9. I expected it to be a mad rush.  Luckily I am very patient.  Took 27 minutes just to add two pens to my pre-existing, all ready to go order--LOL!  But it was worth it!  :)

I'll be surprised if you have any pens left by tomorrow!!

  10. Omigosh I'm so glad I got my wife to order for me at 1EST! I got my hands on a nice Lapis. I was surprised to see that the Lapis and clear sold out so soon.

Now, Rachel and Brian, I know that you guys are hosting your site with a company bla bla but it has happened on many occasions (today was special in any case) that the site loads very slowly or not at all.

Another annoying thing is that the cart likes to play tricks. I can't pinpoint specifics but if I have a bunch of items in the cart and I browse your site, perhaps log in, then perhaps add something else to the cart (I can't replicate the exact sequence of events), at some point all the quantities in the cart get incremented by 1, sometimes by more. And then I have to reset everything to the correct quantity (usually 1). So, you know, when this Noodler's madness is over maybe you can inform your host about these cart issues.

  11. Oh my goodness! We feel so bad for all this inconvenience! Trust us, we were doing everything possible to keep things moving along, frankly, it's a small miracle our site didn't just give up and crash altogether!

  12. That's exactly what we were doing this afternoon. We were on the phone with our web host trying to get these issues resolved as everyone was having these issues, people were emailing all over the place, the phone was ringing left and right...keep in mind, days like today are FAR heavier traffic days than normal, and we have the highest level server available without going to hosting it ourselves (which is scary, because there's NO support then!). We're going to address all of these technical issues in a video that we hope to post later tonight.

  13. Even though the site was slow and it took ages to do anything, I'm glad I got to be there. It was like fountain pen history being made. And I only got to be there because my son woke me at 2.45am and I thought "Hey, may as well see about those pens." Probably the first and only time I've ever been grateful for an early morning waking!

I'm especially pleased I got my Vulcan's Coral. It's my anniversary gift from my husband to me. :)

  14. Awesome, thanks! I didn't know if you were aware of those cart issues.

  16. The "cart" gave me a run for my money---especially when it said I had just ordered 7 sets of O rings and 7 tubes of silicon grease and had 16 items in my cart for $84.50 and I had not even gotten the pen to load yet.  In truth, I probably contributed to part of the problem as I kept trying to get the site to "do anything" but remain frozen in time by clicking on the cart, help, view the cart, home, account and anything else I could find.  Oh well----finally got a pumpkin pen and a J. Herbin blotter with paper refills.  Now I'll need to learn to use this pen.  Maybe enough of us can attend the D.C. Show in August and bring these pens; possibly, Bob Johnson may be able to find a flex writer person to give us collectively some on-site tips; could be fun.  Thanks, Brian and Rachel, for the day you put in to help us acquire these.  Also, the posts in writing instruments and Market Place on the FPN Forum are a stitch to read tonight.

  17. Looks like the Cardinal Darkness just went out of stock as well.  That was a fun launch.  It felt a bit surreal to see the flex pens finally in stock.  It was like a Bigfoot sighting or something.

  18. Oh goodness! Yeah, clicking on 'anything' wasn't helping, as the website was processing all of your clicks! You weren't the only one doing this either, and Rachel spent about 10 hours this afternoon/evening straightening everything out. It's been a bit of madness, but the worst is over....for her! Now I have to go pack up all these pens.... ;)

  19. Yeah, these are all issues that popped up during the 1pm bog-down, and disappeared when things slowed up a bit around 2pm. After being on with our tech support, it looks like it was just the server 'freaking out' a bit, at least that's my technical explanation for it. Everything should be just fine now.

  20. Yup, we have only a few pens left now, it's amazing. I didn't think they'd all go so fast. Flex pens are more like an eclipse, you wait forever for it to happen, it happens, and then it's over and you're like 'well that was over fast!'

  21. Gosh, I know it was a miserable event to attend in Australia! I do think fountain pen history was made, it was quite an event :) Even though the site took a while to load, it never crashed, thank goodness! My word, I can't imagine what we would have done in that case, I think I would have lost a year off the end of my life! Today, I only lost probably a week or so, and maybe gained some gray hairs ;)
