How to Convert a Kaweco to an Eyedropper Fill Pen

In my post yesterday, I introduced you to the Kaweco Sport pens. In that post I mentioned that these pens are ideal for eyedropper conversion. I can go on and on about it all, but I cover it pretty well in the video. I did mention in the video that you can refill your standard international cartridges (as an alternative to doing this eyedropper conversion), and I show you how to do that in this other video (at around 3 minutes in).

One thing I have been told since making this video is that there is a converter out there (made by Monteverde) that can fit the Kaweco Sport. I don’t know how readily available they are. They’re not ‘Kaweco’ official converters (there is no such thing), they just happen to fit the pens, so I’m told. I’m working on getting one of these Monteverde converters in my hands for use in a future video. Once you see how easy the eyedropper conversion is, though, I doubt you’ll feel you need a converter for these pens.

Pretty cool, huh?

  • Hey Brian!  I have a question for you.  Do you have any tips on effectivly cleaning an eyedropper style pen (or a Vanishing Point that has some of the same issues from my perspective although I love mine)?

  • Well, the VP is a little different than this pen, but I get what you're asking. The easiest way to clean the nib/grip section is with a bulb syringe like I do here: http://www.inknouveau.com/2010/04/ink-nouveau-22-flushing-fountain-pen.html

To clean the body, just rinsing it with water should do. You can use a q-tip to swab it out of it needs it. That's about it.

  • Ahhh…q-tip…great idea.  I use the bulb syringe on the nib section…that has always worked great for me, it was just getting the little haze of ink out of the body (or VP converter) that I have issues with.  Thanks Brian!

I have  never used a Kaweco pen, I have heard only the best about the nibs, but prefer big, heavy pens and the Kaweco doesn't fit that bill.
This whole ED craze is also something I never touched, i have so many beautiful inks, why prolong the time until I can change the ink?

That's how I have done it for these pens, and they have NEVER leaked!!!! Great little pen, and the optional cap clip is awesome if you want to clip it to a polo shirt or something!!!!!

  • Nice! Yeah, these are handy little pens for sure.

  • Yeah, big and heavy these pens are not! ED conversion is really appealing to a lot of people. It holds about 2ml of ink, which isn't an absurdly large volume. It would be totally acceptable to change the ink color between every eyedropper filling 😉
