Namiki Blue Ink Review

Link to YouTube for more viewing options.

Namiki Blue is a color that not a lot of people are familiar with, but it's a great color! A nice, dark, pure blue, and very water resistant. I will say that my review here is probably showing a lighter color than what this ink will show in a non-italic pen. This ink has a red sheen to it when put on heavily, similar to Diamine Majestic Blue and PR Electric DC Blue.

If you're not a big fan of the extended dry times of the other two inks, Namiki Blue may just fit your bill. It is a tad more work to clean from your pen because of the red sheen the ink has, it has a tendency to want to coat the feed of your pen. No harm, really, just more work to clean. This is a nice looking and working ink that I can easily recommend.

  1. The ink looks good but I was too distracted by your Edison fountain pen. *drool*

  2. I believe this is the same as the Pilot Blue, which I've been a fan of for a couple of years, ever since started writing with a Pilot VP. The water resistance is the one thing that keeps me on this ink more than any other blue, and in fact, I mostly go with cartridges now, since I travel all the time and they are more convenient and easier to pack! I have to say that the color on my paper (M nib) is more like what is represented in your video than your paper sample -- could be my computer screen, but the color on that scan looks a bit lighter.

  3. Thanks for the review!!! Glad you decided to do the ink reviews! Just out of curiosity, have you tried out the Sailor Jentle Sky High? Does it have a reddish sheen to it as well?

  4. Haha, I was wondering if that was a good choice or not for a pen ;) I guess good?

  5. The color difference is probably due to the italic nib that I used. I wouldn't really go by the color in the video, the scan is more accurate, at least to how it looked with my pen.

  6. Yes, I love Sky High! It does also have that reddish sheen, but it's a much lighter blue, so that's why I didn't include it in the comparison. I'll be doing a Sky High review sometime soon. I really like that ink.

  7. Thanks for the review! Red sheens aren't my thing (learned that with Diamine Majestic Blue), so it's good to know that this ink has that.  BTW, if you like Brian Gray's chatoyant (sp?) acrylics, take a look at the "midnight." I just got an extended Mina in that color and it's not a bad match for J. Herbin PoussiĆ©re de Lune, which I seem to recall you liking.

  8. OOhhh yeah! That Midnight is awesome! Brian has such a great stock of awesome acrylics, the hardest part is narrowing down your favorites :)

  9. Hey Brian, just a suggestion, why not put the review pictures with the inks on gouletpens.com, and put the videos in the "description" section. And as you add more reviews, you can just put them up along with the product. Just a thought. Keep up the awesome work and best wishes to all of the Goulets, present and future!

  10. That's our plan! I just posted this review very early this morning, and Rachel hasn't had the time to put it up on the GPC site yet. Don't worry, as much work as I'm doing I'm going to make sure it's as useful in as many places as possible! ;)

  11. That was not what I expected from these new ink reviews, showing of that chatoyance wonder pen with an italic nib of all nibs to make me go all goose-bumpy!
Other than that criticism, I love the review, I now know, that the ink is not for me.
Next time don't forget to do the drip test ;)

  12. I know, I figured showing that pen was going to be both a good and bad thing ;)

Haha....I swear, I did that drip test!! Wait till you see my Noodler's Black review (already done, just waiting to post it), now THAT'S a drip test you can't tell I did!

  13. there is also another ink I know which has this "red sheen", and it's much simpler than all the inks you described in the video. Just the standard pelikan royal blue.. it does have it too :) couldn't be any simpler!

  14. Ah I see. I look forward to your Sky High review. :) thanks so much!

  15. piston converters work backward too so you can submerge it in water and flush it backwards a couple of times
