DC Fountain Pen Show 2011 Teaser Pics

We went to the DC Fountain Pen Supershow this past weekend, and we really had a blast! This year we opted not to actually set up a table for reasons I'll explain in the full blog post, but we did spend a lot of time just walking around, taking pictures, and meeting fellow fountain pen lovers face-to-face. I took a lot of pictures and even shot some video, but it's going to take me a few days to get it all edited and put together. Until then, here are some teaser pics from the show to give you an idea what it's like.

Sheraton Premiere in Tysons Corner, where the show took place.

Brian and Andrea Gray, of Edison Pen Co. Good friends of ours. Seeing them was a big reason why we went to the show!

Taccia's new model, the Legato. Smaller bodied than most other Taccia pens.

Ink testing table. I took this picture before the mobs hoarded the inks!

Taccia's new pen the Savanna. Hand turned from buffalo horn, more on it later!

New Edison pen called the Collier. This is the latest in the Edison retailer lineup.

Pretty Taccia leather pen cases!

Main ballroom: lotsa vendors, lotsa people, lotsa lotsa pens!!!

Me, rockin' the GPC shirt.

Goulet Fam! Literally, it took 14 pictures to get Joseph to look happy, haha! I look creepy, but whatev.

It was great to get to meet our fellow pen addicts fans at the show ;) Thanks to everyone who went hunting for us to talk to us! We felt a bit like 'Where's Waldo', it was kind of fun, haha!

We'll look to compile a more comprehensive look at all the goings on of the show later once I have time to edit everything.

  1. Great photos, Brian.  That family picture is just about perfect, especially with that little scene stealer of yours.  The  Edison Colliers are beautiful.  I need to start winning the lottery (Actually I need to start playing the lottery) so I can get one.

  3. No joke, the pic was the last one we got in before Joseph had a total meltdown! He was pretty overwhelmed at the show, he definitely just wanted to go around and grab everything he saw.....of course we couldn't let him touch...well....anything :P

  4. Hey, I've learned to care less and less about my own appearance. When you get married, everyone looks at the bride, not the groom....when you have a kid, everyone looks at your baby, not you! I find I blend into the background in most photos these days, so I'm okay with looking a little strange as long as I have my wife or son to take the focus off me ;)

  5. Looks like a lot of fun!  Wish I lived on that side of the country XD.  Can't wait to see the video, but I know you guys are probably exhausted and busy so I don't mind waiting either XD  (P.S. I don't think you look creepy at all.)

  6. It's not just that we're exhausted from the show (well, that's part of it), but that we have a lot of work to catch up on from being gone for a long weekend. The video I shot was pretty disjointed, so it's going to take me some time to string it all together in a way that makes any sense! :P It'll turn out just fine, but it's more editing than my normal videos take.

  9. I wish Washington was a 4000 miles closer...
I hope you had a lot of fun, met nice people , saw nice pens and pen accessories and had a good time all around.
Can one lasso a city over that distance? :D

  10. Ah! You're getting that new Taccia pen in. Please post up some impressions once you get your hands on it. When I was looking at it during the show, it seemed like a nice pen. However, it seemed like it would be more at home staying on your desk rather than going into a case and traveling anywhere.

  11. Haha....oh I forgot to tell you, we'll going to carry all of the cases except the purple one. I don't think there's really a demand for them... ;) ;) ;)

  12. The Legato won't be coming out for a month or so, but I'm eager to play with it. They feel really nice in the hand and will be great for everyone that's wanted a smaller (thinner) Taccia pen.

  13. Haha....well, there are some people that flew in just for the show! But yeah, that's a long way to go...the show was a lot of fun. It's not often we are immersed (in the REAL world) in fountain pens, it's always a trip.

  14. That's true, the Savanna is not the most practical carry-around pen, though the leather case you see next to it in the picture does come with the pen. So it is sort of made to carry around. I didn't get a chance to ink it up, but I did get to test the flex a bit. It's not a full flex nib by any means, but rather a somewhat 'soft' nib that allows for some line variation, maybe one size up from its normal size. I'm eager to get them in and ink it up in a video, it's an interesting pen.

  15. Interesting! I didn't take a look at the Taccia pen cases, but I'd love to see a photograph of the inside when yours come in. They look quite large for a single pen case.

  16. They are a good size, yes. I have some pics of the inside that I took at the show, I'll post it later this week. We've ordered the cases already should have them in a week or so.
