Special Write Time with Nathan Tardif of Noodler's Ink, 10/12/11

Watch live video from Write Time at 9 on Justin.tv

Nathan Tardif of Noodler's Ink was nice enough to give us some of his precious time to clarify some of the Noodler's ink properties. We spent a good hour and forty minutes answering all kinds of questions on inks, flex pens, and future prototypes of Noodler's pens. Nathan was kind enough to send us some pictures of future pens he plans to roll out. I know these pics will be a TOTAL tease, especially because we don't have any estimated time for their arrival. But it gives you an idea of the kind of cool things that Nathan's working on:

We also briefly discussed the Noodler's 2011 Artist's Contest. Here's Nathan's video that we referenced:

  3. Hey Brian, do you know the postal address for Noodler's or their distributor for rollerball tips and the art contest?

  4. For the artist's contest, you can send entries to the distributor's address found here: http://noodlersink.com/contact/.

For rollerball tips, you can actually purchase those through us (and perhaps some other retailers). :-)

  5. Ooooh! Exciting. I wonder what they'll all be? Brian, what is a music nib?

  6. commercial space = more inventories on hand:D

  7. A music nib is basically an italic nib with two slits in it to improve the ink flow. It writes thin on the cross-stroke and thick on the downstroke, which was originally good for writing music by hand. That doesn't happen much anymore, but the nib is still really cool to write with like a normal pen. Platinum also has a Music Nib pen, as does Sailor (though theirs only has one slit, it's really just an italic nib).

  8. I know, right? I can't wait to see it for myself.

  9. AHH THE MUSIC NIB!!!! :O :D :D

Nathan better know he just set a timeline on those babies now... ;-P

I'm am more excited than ever before about Nathan's ongoing and upcoming pen projects. All manner of Resin and Ebonite flex pens, all with the new plunger/ED filler, and at that they measure at 6" capped! What are we going to do with ourselves now!?!

And please tell me the pen with that awesome looking flexy music nib isn't made of celluloid... it is beautiful!

  10. Nathan honesty has so much cool stuff going on I can hardly keep up! He's expressed before that he is not driven by profit, so I think a lot of the excitement for him is designing and creating new pens and inks. He literally emailed us these pictures about 1 minute before we started the broadcast, so these are new and exciting for us too! I just hope we don't have to wait too too long to see some of them : )

  13. Hi Brian, really enjoyed this week's Write Time!

Quick question - will the flex pen in Arizona colours be available on Monday? I seem to recall (perhaps erroneously) Rachel mentioning on Write Time that that particular colour will come a week or two later? I'm in Sydney, Australia, so I have to decide whether to stay up Monday night hahaThanks!

  14. I know, sorry! It's a tease for us too, believe me!

  15. Yes, Arizona will be available for this release. The only thing that we're still waiting on at this point is the Ahab pens, those are still a few weeks away.

  16. Brian, which 4.5 oz ink bottles iclude the noodlre's ed pen ?

  17. There are several pens that include Preppy ED pens, but the ones that include the exclusive Noodler's ED pens are Nikita, Borealis Black, and Dragon's Napalm.

  18. Nathan, I like the contest that you've started. As soon as I get my new flex nib pen in the mail, I'll certainly start sketching some designs. Is there any problem with using watercolour along with ink?

  19. Great interview! Wish I could have tuned in to the broadcast.
Those prototypes in the photos!!! What a tease indeed!!

  20. Watching this video with the sound off is kind of interesting.

  21. Justin.tv is a mess.  No matter what I do it will not play the broadcast, only the same stupid HP printer ad over and over and over again.

  22. I doubt Nathan has the time to cruise our blog comments, so I'll try to help you out here :) I'm pretty sure Nathan wants to keep it all Noodler's ink. If you wanted to use the ink in a watercolor fashion, I'm sure that would be cool. I think he just wants to keep it all Noodler's brand stuff (understandably so).

  23. I know, right? We're teased just as much as everyone else ;)
