February 2012 Ink Drop Reveal (with Joseph!)

This month's Ink Drop theme is Valentine's Day...okay not the most creative name but it gets the message across ;) Joseph just happened to be in my studio as I was about to shoot this video, so on a whim I decided to shoot it with him. He's so adorable in it, and he behaved really well! It was great, I'm glad I did it. For this month, we picked out a nice selection of lovey-dovey colors, including some of our all-time favorites:

  1. Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses- a very popular color, we hesitated to use it because we knew that a lot of you already have it. But, it's such a nice color that we thought those that didn't have it would really enjoy it. Plus, c'mon....roses.....Valentine's Day...
  2. Noodler's Purple Heart- this is our Goulet exclusive Noodlers' color, and it is part of the American Eel line of lubricated inks. We named it Purple Heart in honor of George Washington (a fellow Virginian) and his Badge of Military Merit. Plus it has the word heart in it :)
  3. Private Reserve Chocolat- that's not a typo, there's no 'e' on the end. It's a nice Hershey brown color, like you're writing with a melted chocolate bar! Everyone loves chocolate on Valentine's.
  4. Diamine Hope Pink- you'll either love it or hate it, it's a bright pink. The cool thing about this ink is that Diamine actually donates a portion of the proceeds of this particular color to breast cancer research.
  5. Waterman Red- this is now actually called 'Audacious Red'. We found that out after Ink Drop was completely assembled, so there will undoubtedly be confusion there! I'll be posting more about this and the other Waterman name changes soon. No real reason for choosing this one, it just rounded out the palate nicely.

If you're interested in joining, you can do that here through Feb. 14th to still get this month's colors. Members get 10% off the bottle price for any of these 5 inks!

I hope you enjoy this month's Ink Drop colors. Let me know what you think in the comments!

  1. First of all, Joseph is adorable and did really well to sit and wait while you filmed. It was lovely to "meet" him.

Secondly, I really like the colour selection. Black Swan in Australian Roses is one of my favourites so I'm sure that it's probably going to become even more popular after this month's Ink Drop.

  2. I really enjoyed all of them! I just got Flamingo Pink, which is just a wee peachier, but the Hope Pink is really fun. I thought the Valentine's touch was great. Ink Drop is just terribly fun.

  3.  Wow, I think he looks EXACTLY like your wife!  ;-)

  4. He was great! I'm actually a little surprised he sat as still as he did. Previous to the video (and after, actually) he was wreaking havoc all around the office ;)

BSAR is a great color, and one that I think everyone should experience at least once.

  5. I'm glad you enjoy it! We had fun this month, we're going to try to do fun little things like the hearts in more future Ink Drops :)

  6. You should see pictures of her as a kid, you'd think you're looking at Joseph (but with longer hair!). It's funny, he looks exactly like Rachel when he's happy, and looks a lot like me when he's upset!

  7. It's really nice to have a mystery fun package to anticipate every month.

  8. Waterman Red (I LOVE the name augmentation!) has become my staple red ink. I discovered it quite by accident after trying lots of other reds (including the second-runner-up, Noodler's Red Rattler). I wanted one that was a "true" red, not too orangey and not too blue.

The Waterman Red is rich in the pen, with beautiful shading, and I have no trouble with it drying in the pen. It lives in my rOtring 600 and seems quite happy there... :)

  9. Yay, Joseph got video time!  He's too cute!

I am thinking I need to try a sample of Waterman Audacious Red now.

  10. That baby boy is just scrumptious!  I thought he looked so much like both of you.  Definately has your eyes Brian.  Oh yea, there was some ink talk too wasn't there?  Since I already have a bottle of BSAR I happily have my sample to another pen affectionado (along with a Goulet Pen book mark ;)  It is one of my favorites.  Thanks for the candy hearts - nice surprize!

  11. I'm glad you added PR Chocolat to the drop this month.  I'd heard about that ink on some of the art blogs.  Some folks like to use it for ink washes and I wanted to try it myself.  After trying it, I really like it.  It really looks gorgeous when you move it around with a waterbrush.  It has lots of nice undertones that come out once it dries.  Now I have to get a bottle of it for myself!

  12. Brian, you and Rachel really nailed it this month with some of my personal favorites, and the ones I don't already have are ones that have been on my "try soon" list! My favorite ink for ink and wash sketches is Private Reserve Chocolat mixed about 3:1 with Private Reserve Velvet Black. And who doesn't love Black Swan in Australian Roses? Heck, everybody needs a bottle of that! LOL Your Purple Heart ink has been on my try list ever since you came out with it, and the Waterman Red has been recommended to me by a number of people. Thanks so much!

  13. You're one of the only ones who likes the name change, at least of this crowd: http://www.inknouveau.com/2012/02/waterman-ink-name-changes.html

I agree, it's a really nice red which is why we wanted to include it for everyone this month. I'm glad you love it!

  14. Joseph hasn't been in a video in a looooooong time, so I'm happy to show him off :)

  15. Haha, yeah, I thought he might steal the show ;) That's okay though! Thanks for sharing your BSAR with a friend. Of course we are always sensitive to anyone who gets a duplicate, it's unavoidable to some degree. That was one color we knew a lot of people probably had, but it was still worth doing.

  16. That's wonderful! I'm not always able to test each ink for waterwashness (is that a word? Is now!), so I'm thrilled to get feedback like this because I do get asked from time to time about what inks wash well.

  17. Well if you were impressed, Jamie, then I know we did a good job with is this month!
