Pilot Vanishing Point: Gun Metal with Black Matte Accents

Pilot has come out with a new Vanishing Point color, Gun Metal with Black Matte Accents. It's basically a Gun Metal Gray VP body with Black Matte trim instead of rhodium. It's a simple merge of the two pens, but WOW does it look sweet!

Pilot Vanishing Point, Gun Metal with Black Matte Accents

It was originally rumored to have the same shadow box as the black matte VP, but that's not the case (pun!). It comes with the standard Pilot hard case that all of the other VP's do. It's available now, and is the same price as other VP's, $175 list, $140 at GouletPens.com.

I have a couple of other videos on the Pilot Vanishing Points, too. Here's an overview of the Vanishing Point line, as well as a video on how to properly fill a Vanishing Point. I also show how these VP nibs write in my Pilot Vanishing Point Fermo review.

What do you think? Do you like the new color, or do you prefer the black matte version better?

  1. I prefer (and own) the full black matte version and the gunmetal with chrome accents version. JMHO of course.

  2. I'm a little unclear, do you have both but prefer the black matte?

  3. Really love the contrast between the two textures on this one. The two originals are nice but something about merging them and creating that contrast just really jumps off the screen and says, "BUY ME!"

  5. Yeah, I have both the old grey versions (chrome and slate) and the matte black version. But this is not dazzling me, I'm not a fan.

  6. Definitely, and it's not just the color too, it's the texture. I really love the way the black matte feels next to the slicker enamel on the gun metal. Something about the two slightly different textures just makes this pen fun to handle.

  7. Of course I did! I knew you'd want to see it, so I couldn't help myself ;)

  8. Really? How come? This is definitely a darker gray than your chrome and slate versions.

  9. Just got mine this morning! All I can say is wow, and amazingly fast service by the Goulet pen co. as allways :). The look of the pen is amazing in my opinion but what I like the most is the texture feel of the pen. The smooth barrel and (slightly) textured matte black nose cone and clip feel awesome when writing. This is nicer to hold and better for long writing sessions as I find the rhodium trim on my raden and 2012 LE vp's gets slippery after a little bit when my hand sweats. The trim feels nearly identical to my matte black vp but the different barrel really adds something to the look and feel.

  10. I completely agree! I love the feel of the two different finishes...I'm not sure I conveyed that enough in the video. It is really a cool feeling, and one you don't get on a lot of other pens. I'm glad you like it, and thanks so much for supporting my store :)

  11. I have a black/rhodium VP, and I think I'd definitely trade that for the GunMatte. Great looking pen.

  12. Just buy a gun metal one and put it in the case together with your current VP, throw on a little funk music and maybe it'll produce a gunmatte just like mine did ;) jk of course, I used visual trickery in the video. Two VP's cannot reproduce and make a 3rd! Boy, if they could I'd be doing that all day long ;)
