Installing A Lamy Cartridge

It may seem like an elementary topic, but you’d be surprised how often I get asked how to properly install an ink cartridge. The concept is the same for just about any cartridge/converter fountain pen, and I am using a Lamy Vista to demonstrate the practice. Learn how to properly install it (0:20), when to change it (5:14), and how often to clean it depending on your usage (6:13). Hi Brian nice to see you again. I believe Monteverde also has Lamy compatible cartridges.

    • I think you’re right, I’ve never tried them though.

I can’t get the cartridge to click in the pen. The seal is not breaking. Can I use a pin or something to break the seal?

    • You shouldn’t need to. Just press harder, it’ll break the seal, I promise!

Hey Brian, On my Lamy (same shape pen, but made of very light colored and weight aluminum), I simply set the cartridge in the well of the nib section and screw the back on. It provides the force needed to break the cartridge seal. I think it may be designed to do that. Hope this helps, Bob

Are Waterman cartridges compatible with the Lamy Vista?

Thanks for this. I can never remember which end of the cartridge goes in first. Now I know. The word Lamy should be facing me. Good tip to clean the pen every so often. Have not been doing that. Have a good day n keep looking up!
