Gorgeous images of the new Pilot Metallic VP

Pilot USA was kind enough to send us additional images of their upcoming Metallic Vanishing Point fountain pen collection coming this May, which we blogged about yesterday. Enjoy!

So tell us, what color is calling your name?

  1. If they made a pink one it would probably be calling my name. These other ones are just sort of waving at me in a friendly manner.

  2. That green one, definitely.

  3. They look fantastic! Personally, the Desert Orange seems to be attracting my attention the most, but that third photo bothers me a bit. Am I the only that would run over with a towel to dry those pens?

  4. OMG, these pens are all so gorgeous!!!

  5. The Purple one would be the one I'd buy if I could afford it.

  6. Those look stunning. I'm loving the blue.

  7. That said, the purple and green are nice... and the blue really draws the eye for some reason...

  8. These are so gorgeous. I would be so twitchy about making sure the ink matched...;)

  9. Oh yes, the purple one shall be mine.

  10. I was wondering if they sprayed them with water for the photoshoot like they spray bodybuilders with oil to make them shine. That made me laugh! (Also, I love the green.)

  11. Definitely the blue. But that Copper Red gets better with each picture. Still, does Pilot really advise leaving a Vanishing Point out on the deck during a rainstorm?

  12. Okay, yesterday I stated the Copper Red and Desert Orange were calling to me. Now, you can add to those two the Tropical Purple. While I'm not big on blues and greens usually, even they're gorgeous on this pen. However, it will have to be a pick of either the orange, red, or purple... SIGH!

  13. Having the great designs in mind Pilot came up with for the VP in the 60s and 70s, this is just a slap in the face. Can a pen become any more girlish, cheap looking and tasteless? Incredible development and degeneration of a once great fountain pen.

  14. Why is "girlish" a bad thing? :)

  15. VP-lover must feel insecure. I bet he calls his pink shirts "pale burgundy" so he won't feel girlish. Women tend to have a better sense of style than most men anyway. The copper red appeals to me, but all the colors look like 21st century.

  16. I like the colors, they're very bright and clear. I don't like the black accents, and probably won't buy one because of it. I think the colors would look better with their usual rhodium trim.

  17. I actually like the matte black accents and think they add a bit of sophistication to the pen. Not that either of us is wrong but rather what we prefer. :-)

  18. Girlish? I'd love to know what your idea of a "Boyish" pen is.

  19. Interesting, I wouldn't have thought of that, but now that you mention it, these would look so pretty with the rhodium trim.

I have an old Decimo in a pearly pink color with the rhodium, very pretty. Only ever released in Japan as far as I know.

  20. The blue is fantastic. But then again, I really like the purple. And the green. And actually the copper red is pretty sweet now that I think about it.

    argh.

  21. If you ever saw the LE pink they did fairly recently, it's very nice. Not this kind of pearlescent finish, but still a lovely pen. I think Goulet is sold out of them but you can still find them around.

  22. I have to say, I'd probably pick up a hot pink, even though I already have two different shades of pink VP. :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. The pink LE they did a couple of years ago was pretty awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh yeah, I think they were out 3 years ago, I remember still being in my garage when we had those. It did actually have a pretty similar finish to these pens, a little sparkly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I know, right? I'll have to match some up once I get the pens in my hands :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not gonna lie, I think the purple might be the standout from the bunch…

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe it's not a rainstorm…I think they're just such hot pens that they're sweating ;)

  28. Maybe the Montegrappa Chaos? ;) http://www.montegrappa.com/products/writing_instruments/chaos/index.html

  29. That is probably very much a preference thing, I personally don't feel that black means cheap. To me, shiny chrome can look just as cheap.

  30. Haha, they each have kind of their own thing going for them! I feel your pain ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. They did a VP LE like that about 3 years back, really nice looking. I have one, I'll have to show it in the video when I get these pens in. I wish Pilot USA brought in the Decimo! Cool pen, but that would be a lot of colors to stock since it's so close to the VP.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hear ya, I'm sure others feel the same way. I think some of the colors probably would look good with the rhodium, but I honestly can't see the orange or red ones looking too great.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, I thought I was watching some fantasy video game at that link. This should have a lot of appeal to 12 year old pen lovers! Ugh, I would not give $5 for one unless I could resell it for a profit! Looks without function or form. Gaudy. Now I will have to study my Pilot Metal Falcon for a few minutes just to get the bad taste out of my memory. Good reply Brian!

  34. I remember when they had this on the cover of Pen World. I thought it was ugly and pretentious then and still do today. However, there may be others who think it's wonderful. To each his own but it is definitely not for me.

  35. Oh goodness, those are gorgeous!! Love the red, and the green. I personally like the black and think it looks great against the bright colors.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brian,
Could you give us a size comparison to say the Pelikan Souverans? Are these comparable to the 800 or the 600 or the 1000 for example?
    Thanks.

Super cool pics, well done, and pretty pens. I have a question, though. What is the true color of the pens? Pics on the web site, the store, are showing pens in vibrant, bright colors, but also in somehow dull colors as well. Take a green one, for example. The first pic is darkish olive green, the second one is bright, almost acid green.

  38. Oh, the Green Valley, by far! I actually own the black carbonesque, and can't wait to have my own Green. It looks so young and hip!
