Goulet Top 5 Picks for Fall

This post was written by our own Alex Ross.

Fall is officially here, friends. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a lover of all things fall. To me, it equals a new beginning or a fresh start. I loved going back to school shopping — getting new clothes and school supplies. One of the things I love most about fall, though, is the change of colors and style. I'm in love with the darker and golden hues that emerge, including the ones in the fountain pen world. Here are my top picks for this fall that will hopefully get you just as excited about the season.

Top 5 Fall Pens:

1. Parker Urban, Mandarin Yellow
I've been in love with this pen since the day we got it. Its golden yellow color is insanely unique and, in my personal opinion, gorgeous. This pen is a perfect pick for fall considering it looks like the changing leaves right outside my window.

2. Edison Nouveau Premiere 2014 Fall Edition — Autumn Harvest
This is a natural pick. What I admire about this pen are the flecks of gold and orange. It's extremely unique and was created with this season specifically in mind. If you want to show off fall, this is the pen to do it with.

3. Lamy Al-Star, Purple
The Purple Al-Star represents the darker tones of fall. The purple/maroonish color will be perfect for your day-to-day fall adventures. Plus, the color reminds me of game-days at Virginia Tech. Go Hokies!

4. Faber-Castell Loom, Metallic Blue
To me, fall encompasses many hues, and navy is one of them. Mostly as it gets darker earlier, the skies begin to fade into night as a dark, infinite blue. It is so deep and rich and makes me love fall nights all the more. Think cozying up by the bonfire with the stars bright and clear above you. This pen is about writing down those memories.

5. TWSBI Vac 700, Orange
This orange is pretty close to perfect for fall. It's vibrant but still has that dark, rustic feel to it. Orange is a signature color for all. Pumpkins and pens alike.

Top 5 Fall Inks:

These inks pretty much speak for themselves, so I won’t go into detail about why I chose each one. It was pretty difficult to narrow it down to just five though. All you need to know is that Diamine Pumpkin was my first love at Goulet simply because of the name. That might give you a glimpse into how much I love this season…

1. Diamine Pumpkin

2. Noodler's Burgundy

3. Faber-Castell Hazelnut Brown

4. Diamine Autumn Oak

5. Stipula Sapphron

I hope these fall picks inspire you to throw on your favorite sweater and scarf, snag a Pumpkin Spice Latte, and cozy up by the fire with your fountain pen. Slow down and get comfortable scribbling away letters, memories, and dreams. I might go do that right now.

Are you as pumped for fall as I am? What are your fall picks for pens and inks?

  1. Love it! Thanks for the picks and great photos to kick off the season, Alex. As a fellow fall-lover, I'll put my purple Al-star in my pocket for the day, loaded with a homemade dark green blend from Goulet samples of Diamines, in honor of the post. Write on!

  2. Oo, I'm really excited to try that new Diamine Autumn Oak! Looks great!

  3. Love that :) Sounds like you'll have the perfect fall day then huh? Enjoy!

  4. Alex, What a wonderful Fall Pick! My favorite season and this stirs up my pen & ink blood. I'm hoping to have a brand new copper Vanishing Point 2014 LE soon. I may put Diamine Ancient Copper in it, or I may break down and get a bottle of the Diamine Autumn Oak (in my wish list) or splurge and get the J. Herbin Rouge Hematite (also in wish list). And the new Black Swan in Australian Roses is already in my Platinum Cool and TWSBI Mini. The photos are outstanding too. Hark, Autumn Oak is already calling from the woods around me!

  5. Great picks Alex. Lately I've been toting my Edison Beaumont in Bedrock Flake filled with Noodler's Beaver - one of my favorite browns. The Edison was a present to me from my wife last year as I'm a geologist and the Bedrock Flake was a natural! I'm liking the amber inks you guys have been showcasing and am putting in an order for the Edelstein Amber to give it a try. The color in the Colorado Rockies here is the best I've seen in years, by the way. If anyone has the opportunity to visit in the next month or so, it should be spectacular!

  6. Thanks, Tom! Sounds like any of those inks would go perfectly with that pen :) I'm a huge fan of the Ancient Copper — definitely on my list of inks to use this fall! Hope you enjoy the beautiful mountains in Colorado! What a wonderful way to experience fall.

  7. Ooh so glad you went for the Parker, Jack! It's such a beautiful pen and Parker's write so nicely. I'm sure you'll love it! Let us know how it goes :)

  8. Not Colorado, but 120 miles west of you! Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have about 3 to 4 weeks for the colors to really get going.

  9. No idea why I thought Colorado! Sorry about that haha.

  10. This pushed me over the edge on ordering the orange TWSBI Vac 700, along with some appropriately-colored-for-October Noodler's red-black ink...

  11. I got the Platinum Maki-e Changing Autumn Leaves fountain pen from Goulet Pens. So that is my choice as the season changes.

Alex, does the Diamine Pumpkin produce any nib crud? I've read that about Ancient Copper. The pumpkin name did the same thing for me. I wanted it even though I have J Herbin Indien Orange and Edelstein Amber.

  12. I wanted to mention I like the box in the photo.

  13. I've always stored my pens horizontally ..

  14. Let your
mother feel your presence however far you are from her, when you gift these
extravagant arrangements of Flowers and other Gift items wrapped up in the
scent of your love. Send Mother's Day Flowers to South Korea and gain
    appreciation for your choice. Order
