Yafa Video Tour With Owner Yair Greenberg

Several weeks ago, Rachel and I had the honor of visiting Yair Greenberg at his headquarters for Yafa, Inc. in Canoga Park, Ca. Yafa is our distributor for Monteverde, Delta, Stipula, and Conklin, but they’re much more than just a logistics company moving products from one place to another. They actually have a heavy hand in designing and developing products for these brands, and we’ve collaborated with them before with pens like the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe Nighthawk (which we miss dearly).

In addition to getting to see a slew of new pens that are slated to come out in the next several months, we also had the opportunity to tour the Yafa facility and sit down with the owner and founder, Yair. He started the company 36 years ago, working with his wife just as Rachel and I started out in the early days of GouletPens.com.

This video tells a bit of Yair’s story and shows you a side of the fountain pen industry that you often don’t get to see. There are deeply passionate and knowledgeable fountain pen lovers at Yafa that have a huge influence on the type of products that are available to you and me, and I’m honored to be able to show you a little insight into their world.

Now a little disclaimer here, I personally shot all this footage and the video/audio quality isn’t perfect. Jenni is my videographer and did a tremendous job cutting together the footage that I gave her, but I take full responsibility for any cinematic critiques!

I’d love to know what you think of Yafa and with this style of video. It’s a bit of a different approach to what we normally do, and I’d appreciate your comments below. Thanks!

Brian Goulet

I think you did a great job, Brian. I use an Invincia Deluxe every day, and it made me sort of …well, proud to year Yair tell me that they call him “Monteverde.” So cool! It was nice to have this inside look and a little bit more information to fuel the fire of love for pens. Excellent work! BTW–Excellent customer service at YAFA, and I would assume a great company to work with. I called today and got a real person after just two rings.

    • Yeah, they’re the real deal. Most of what they do goes unnoticed as they’re not as outward facing as I am, but they really do care about these products, fountain pens in general, writing, and taking care of people. I have a whole new respect for what they do after seeing their place in action. There’s a huge alignment of values between Yafa and Goulet, no doubt.

I love this. Was going for Sheaffer 100 next, but this may have just sold me on Monteverde. The thoughtfulness, connection with his wife, etc is fabulous.

Video was edited well. Thought it was one of your better ones. Sound was spotty in parts of the video, but that’s normal.

Love the age difference & class both companies bring to this video.

I bought a Conklin Crescent filler from them earlier on in the year (sorry guys it was on sale). Excellent service and delivery time. The Conklin has really surprised me by probably being the smoothest nib I own. I was told that Monteverde nibs are identical to Conklin’s so I bought Monteverde Intima a couple of weeks ago from The London Pen show and rate that almost as highly. They really seem to really take pride in their work. Thanks for the insight.

Brian, thank you very much for showing us this video. Some 15 years ago I bought a Monteverde Charisma pen and pencil set. After two or three years of use, the threaded end of the barrel came out and the seller referred me to Yafa. Immediate response and I sent the pen to Yafa and got a replacement pen very quickly. Great service. Later I needed a Schmidt gel pen refill and Yafa carried them. Excellent service. It is wonderful to see Yafa and Yair’s story, to see how successful they’ve become and what a class act Yafa is. This truly made my day. By the way, the video was great quality too. Thanks Brian and Yair!

I love this video. It’s inspiring to learn about people who are able to take a passion and turn it into a business. Plus, a bit of the behind the scenes is usually quite interesting, as it was here. Thanks for posting!

An excellent idea, and your technical ability will improve. Meanwhile the video is perfectly understandable. I appreciate learning about the behind-the-scenes aspects of anything.

Just ordered a replacement nib for my conklin because I cleverly destroyed the first one a week after I had it. A real person answered the phone, sent me the order form, and I received the nib 3 days later in VA. Great customer service! Fun to see what’s going on there.

    • Yair is really proud about Yafa’s customer service. I had to cut out a part of his interview where he was saying how important this is for him, but I’ve heard a lot of stories just like yours. They do stand behind their stuff!

Interesting video and gives me more respect for the company and products. I like the fact that the company has so many workers that have worked for the company such a long time it speaks well of the how Yair runs and manages his company.

Switching companies and owner personalities completely I got an e-mail from Noodlers Ink that Nathan is coming out with a new ink called ” General of the Armies” that he is supposed to be debuting at the Dallas pen show but available for sale by dealers later this month additionally. What I read it appears that the “Evil Catfish of inks” has been playing in his “Mad Scientist laboratory” again to create an ink that goes on green and turns to blue as it dries. To me it sounds interesting and a ink to add to my collection. I guess you know the next question what have you heard and when do I make my next donation to your kids college fund. It I think of that way it is easier to justify the purchase beside I been needing something to buy to go with the “Art Nib pack”

Excellent video. The best of fortune to both of your companies. Two fantastic companies at different stages of development.

Great clip. Thanks Brain and Yair for sharing this. I hope you have continuing success and provide us with products from both your first rate companies.

Great video, thanks! Love my Monteverde Nighthawk – it’s always in my top three rotation. I got the second version, which I actually like better than v1.0, usually inked up with Penman Ruby.

Beautiful video… you guys really have a flair for not just sharing information but walking people through a narrative – awesome stuff guys! Well done Brian and Jenni 🙂

Loved the video. I like hearing the stories of how a successful business came about. Now I’m going to have to look into adding a Monteverde pen to my collection!
