Noodler's Neponset Release at GouletPens.com on 11/6

Our first Noodler's Neponset shipment will be available for purchase on Thursday, November 6th, 2014 at 1:00pm Eastern US time.

Update 11/6 at 1:26pm, All Noodler's Neponsets have sold out!
We're so sorry if you missed them, we have no ETA for the next shipment at this time. We will do our best to update as soon as we know more, but until then sign up for the email notification on the pen color of your choice to be notified when we get more in.

The Noodler's Neponset pen with the flexible 3-tined music nib is a pen that I found out about in a phone call with Nathan Tardif (the Noodler's mastermind) almost 4 years ago, and even then I could hardly wait to see this pen. It's been a long, long time coming, and we are finally going to receive them at GouletPens.com

Noodler's is known for value-priced flex-nib fountain pens like the Nib Creaper, Ahab, and Konrad, and the Neponset has been rumored for years. Once Stephen Brown got his hands on one and put it up on YouTube (check that out here), it began an endless stream of emails to me and my team about when we'd be getting these puppies in stock. What makes this pen so unique is:

  • Ebonite- the hard-rubber material screams classic vintage homage, in 5 different color options
  • Music flex nib- the first I've ever seen like it, a flexible 3-tined nib gives crazy line variation
  • Large size- about equal in size to the MB149, it's big and it's meaty
  • Large ink capacity- it has the same piston as the Noodler's Ahab that pushes a 2ml ink capacity, and can be eyedropper-converted for an insanely large ink reservoir
  • $75 price tag- just unheard of for an ebonite pen of this size with a flex nib, it's quite unique

Noodler's Neponset Music Nib, 3-tined nib with flex, unique to this pen model

But here's the thing, we're not getting enough. I don't know exactly how many people want this pen, but I can tell you that it's more than we'll have pens to sell. That's why I'm doing this blog post, to give you a chance to get a fair shot at getting a Neponset for yourself at this initial release.

So we're going to do something we haven't done in a long time, a scheduled release of the pens. So on Thursday, November 6th, 2014 at 1:00pm Eastern US time, we're going to put all of our Neponsets in stock and they will be available for purchase first-come-first-serve.

It's best to load up your shopping cart with other items first before 1pm, then checkout as close after we list them as possible. The items in your cart aren't reserved or guaranteed until you checkout, so you'll want to be as quick as you can in the checkout process. We are getting an okay stock of each color of Neponset, but we know that demand will far exceed our supply so we predict we will run out quickly. You will want to rearrange your schedule so that can be there right at the time we release the pens, or have someone available who can be on your behalf.

We're not establishing an 'official' limit on how many Neponsets you can buy, just try to be reasonable to allow the most number of your fellow writing enthusiasts to get them as possible. You can also sign up for the 'email me when back in stock' notification on the product page to be sent an email as soon as they're put in stock.

We're not taking any pre-orders for these pens, so you'll need to be there to grab it when it's available. I'm incredibly sorry if this timing is not ideal for my friends on the other side of the world, I had to pick a time that accommodated the most people as I could. Because this is the first release of pens I really don't have any idea when I'll be getting more. There are some colors of Noodler's pens that have been released that have never had a follow-up shipment, others restock after a matter of weeks, we will just have to see. I do plan to play with these pens and shoot some videos when I can, so more information will be forthcoming.

So if you want to get your hands on a Neponset, you know where to be and when. You've officially been informed :) Hit me up in the comments with any questions.

Write On,
Brian Goulet

  1. Good plan Brian. This gives a fair shot for everyone.

What colors do you think will be most popular?
Did you get the numbers you requested?

For me Red Rebellion, Jade and Black are my top three choices. Did you pick favorites for colors and order more of them? Now you've seen them did your impressions of the designs and colors change?

And good luck on the website re-launch - very much looking forward to that.

  2. I'll have my shopping basket ready to add one at the launch! Looks like a neat pen. Thanks for the heads up Brian. If I don't get one, I'll be so disappointed I may have to order an Omas Ogiva Alba to assuage the sting of loss (how's that for a backup plan?).

Would you add the pen to the Nib Nook and Pen Plaza? Thanks !

  4. Another beautiful 'value' pen from Noodlers. Actually 'value' only refers to the price. Take a look at ebonite pens on any other penmaker's site and you'll see a corresponding price premium. Love how Nathan weaves history and symbolism into his products. Very unique and a big reason why I love his products. Good luck everyone on the pen grab tomorrow!

  7. it'll be a bit of a feeding frenzy so I want to say you could wait, I just honestly don't know when we'll get more. It could be weeks, it could be months.

  8. Oh, man...that was "fun". Store closes, pages freeze...but I grabbed me the red rebellion before it sold out. Whew! Not bad for a geezer at 2am in Australia.

  9. Lucky enough to grab a Walnut before they were gone. Only black left now. Probably gone soon. Panicked a little when the store was "in maintenance."

  10. I think I bought the first Red Rebellion LOL

  11. I got a Red Rebellion about 1:00:45 best I could tell. Wow, they must have gone in 10 minutes or less.

  12. Wow, congrats! You earned that one ;)

  13. We put the site in maintenance mode so we could put the pens in stock without it hanging up from all the 'refreshing', learned that the hard way a couple of years ago!

  14. Oh yeah, they were gone super-fast. Red Rebellion, Chestnut and Walnut were gone in about 6 minutes, Jade hung on just a few more minutes, and black was there for a whopping 25 before we sold out of everything. Good work, Tom!

  15. Brian if you are at liberty to say, How many of each color did you receive? even a ballpark number would be interesting

My calculations would be 40-50 black
and maybe 30-40 of each other coluor.

  16. Congratulations everyone at Goulet on a well-advertised and well-managed launch. I had a 1pm meeting - thought there might be a few left when I got out at 2pm. No chance! :) I was more than 30 minutes too late! Looking forward to the next batch and seeing whether all these colors reappear. For those still hankering after one now there appear to be a few out there still, if you know where to look, and my local brick and mortar store told me on Tuesday they'd have some in this week. Good luck hunting them down everyone!

  17. After the announcement and some further research, I had a full-blown case of Neponset Fever. Was at the ready with both my iPad and my laptop by 11:50 CST. Had the black Neponset waiting in my wishlist, ready for a quick transfer and purchase. Everything went like clockwork. What fun! Well done Goulet Pen Company!! You deserve your success for so many reasons.

  18. Well darn, I didn't get one! I was actually too busy doing nearly exactly the same thing with the Nexus 6 at the exact same time to get in on this batch.

Oh well! I will have to wait until the next batch.

  19. Holy Moly! Don't blink! That was fast!

  20. I am so sleep deprived. Stayed up til 2am as I am on the other end of the world. But well worth it cos I got it!!! Phew! What an adrenaline rush

  21. Thanks, Brian. It took me a while to get the adrenaline to wear off from the thrill of the challenge. :)

  22. I'm right there with you--2am in Australia, but worth it because I got the pair I wanted...hard to go to sleep right afterwards though.

  23. I have always loved Noodler's pens and when I lost my Nib Creeper on a trip practically the first thing I did was order a new one. While I didn't jump on this sale it delights me that it only took 26 minutes for the Neponset to sell out.

This was so funny - I actually had to order twice because I wrecked my first order by hitting a wrong key - and still ended up with a Black and a Walnut in my 2nd order! (missed out on the Red Rebellion, though :/ ) Great job at launching the Neponset, Team Goulet!

  25. Saturday morning, USPS says my Neponset is "Out for Delivery"! El Lawrence? Lexington Gray? Black Swan in Australian Roses? Decisions, decisions. I know I want a well shading ink, and it will probably be BSAR. This sale was so exciting. Goulet handled it perfectly. Now if only Noodler's General of the Army would come back in stock....

  26. It came! 47 hours 50 minutes after ordering. Now putting it through its paces. The Red Rebellion ebonite is stunning.
