Monday Matchup #57: Kaweco Skyline Sport Fountain Pen - Grey with De Atramentis Magenta Violet

Misty Copeland made history this July by being named the first African-American female Principal Ballet dancer in the American Ballet Theater's history. Her story is extraordinary for many reasons- over coming a childhood of poverty, demonstrating that different body shapes can work for ballerinas, to name a couple- but it is her late start to the world of ballet that is astounding.

Many professional dancers start at the ripe old age of 2 or 3, and spend years in the studio training to audition for top level ballet schools. Misty Copeland began her career at age 13. For anyone to accomplish what she has in the prestigious world of ballet is incredible. To do it with such a late start is mind-blowing. It could only be accomplished with a great deal of determination, incredibly hard-work, and an intense self-belief.

At any age, learning a new skill is difficult. But as we get older, it becomes easier and easier to give up on projects or tell ourselves it's impossible to achieve our dream. Want to learn the fox trot? To write a novel? To knit a scarf? Take Misty's example and know that it's never too late to start or excel!

Adam used a Kaweco Skyline Sport in Grey and De Atramentis Magenta Violet ink to create this portrait. The Skyline sport is available at Gouletpens.com for  $25-$27 depending on nib size. De Atramentis Magenta Violet is available in 35ml bottles currently on sale for $9.95 (previously $12.95) or in 2ml ink samples for $.99 (previously $1.25).

  6. Have you seen her Under Armour commercial? It's insane the physical condition she's in - I wish I could have even a smidge of her emotional and physical strength and grace. Gorgeous picture - I hope she gets to see it.

I'll see if I can get it to her. She was invited to be on a panel that I will be moderating this fall--she's too busy, though--and the organizer should have contact information.
