Hey fountain pen friends! Madigan here. I'm so excited about the awesome new Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop colors coming out this month- they are such fun and exciting colors! For me, the best part of getting a new pen is trying to find the perfect ink to pair with it. I haven't gotten my hands on any of these yet, but when I do, these are the inks I will try out in each.
Maybe you don't love my picks, and that's OK! Part of the joy of using fountain pens is discovering what works for you. To that end, you should swing by our Swab Shop. You can compare inks by color, by brand, or use our fantastic interactive tool to compare and contrast different ink colors across brands. Remember, you can grab entire bottles or just stick to ink samples! Either way, these suggestions should help get your brain buzzing with new inks to try.
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Gray- $15
I love this beautiful gray pen. Since it is more serious with that hounds tooth print, I'd keep mine filled with Private Reserve Gray Flannel, Diamine Graphite, or Noodler's Black. I particularly enjoy a grey ink in a business setting- it's still serious but a lot of them include some gorgeous shading. Noodler's Black is our most popular ink because of it's low price point and serious darkness.
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Red- $15
This is such a rad red pen! Pair it will Diamine Wild Strawberry, Waterman Audacious Red, or Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji. Diamine Wild Strawberry and Waterman Audacious Red are bold, bright, and perfect for drawing attention. Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji is more of a magenta shade which would match the center band.
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Orange- $15
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Green- $15
Your new green ink will look great in this pen! Coupled with Pilot Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin, De Atramentis Sahara Grey, or Private Reserve Avocado, your creativity is sure to grow. My personal favorite is the Pilot Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin. It's just such a bright and cheery green!
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Turquoise- $15
Turquoise ink is always fun to write with! Pair your turquoise pen with J. Herbin Diabolo Menthe or Diamine Marine for a perfect match or match your ink to the trim with J. Herbin Gris Nuage. All of these inks are gorgeous shaders to boot!
Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop Purple- $15
Make your purple pen pop with these pretty inks! Diamine Lavender, Noodler's Purple Martin, and Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite are all great choices to help your prose pour from your pen. I'm particularly fond of the Diamine Lavender.
Do you like to match your ink to your pens? What ink would you pair with these new Retro Pops?
