Hi everyone! Margaret here. I'm excited to let you know that it's officially Spring here in Virginia. Along with allergies, come flowers in bloom and longer days with more sunlight. For this week's Monday Matchup, I wanted to capture some of the beauty that this season brings.
To create my matchup, I got to work using a Lamy Joy with a 1.1mm stub nib and the beautiful Noodler's Apache Sunset. I first found this fitting Audrey Hepburn quote and went from there, perusing Pinterest for some flower inspiration. I wrote the quote out using the pen and then drew a faint circle around it in pencil. I drew over the circle with the pen, but had to adjust how I was holding the pen so that the stub nib was at the right angle. Then, the exciting part, flowers!
For the flowers and leaves, I used both a brush pen and the Lamy Joy. I dipped the brush pen into the cap of the Apache Sunset bottle and did the outlines of some of the flowers. I let them dry and went back over them with the pen, adding in some of the darker color and defining lines. I didn't have much of a plan about where to put each leaf or flower, so it all just kind of came to be. This was a fun one to do, and I really wouldn't change much about it.
I loved working this pen and ink! The pen's design is a bit unique with the long tapered barrel. Overall, I found it really easy to work with. I think this pen would be a good fit for those who enjoy sketching. What's great about the Lamy Joy is that you can buy replacement nibs and change up the writing experience if you're interested. It's also incredibly lightweight, making it easy to use over a long period of time.
I'm going to say it - I think everyone should own this ink! It's so versatile that I can imagine so many different uses for it. It would be great for writing lists, sketching, writing thank you notes, etc. This ink is one of my favorites! It's hard to believe that one ink can have so many different shades. I love how it changes from yellow to orange, depending on how much ink you put down. It's even included in Brian's top 7 shading inks. The 1.1mm nib really helped show off the shading that Noodler's Apache Sunset is capable of. I also was impressed with how well the Rhodia pad featured the ink as well.
Good news - you've got a chance to win this pen and ink! Visit our Instagram profile for more details on how to enter our Monday Matchup Giveaway.
