Platinum Mix-Free Cyclamen Pink with a Kaweco Ice Sport Pink: Monday Matchup #94

Hello, fountain pen fans! Madigan here, bringing you this passionately pink Monday Matchup. I paired Platinum Mix-Free Cyclamen Pink with a Kaweco Ice Sport Pink to create this piece. Pink is a polarizing color, but to me, this is my favorite kind of pink. It's bold, it's brash, it's a little bit in your face- but it's also a lot of fun.

When looking at this pen and ink, the word that immediately sprang to mind was "passion". "Serve with passion" is one of our values here at the Goulet Pen Company, and I'm always awed by the abundance of it around here. I found this quote and thought it was so fitting and so true. Compelling enthusiasm is impossible to fake, irresistible, and contagious. I wanted to create a piece that reflected that emotion.

Initially, I thought it would be fun to do some ink washes with this color, since it is so bright. I grabbed a sheet of water color paper and cut it into a square. I knew I wanted the quote to be the center of the piece, so I took a pencil and wrote it out, using different styles of writing to make it interesting. Using a straight edge, I drew a square around it. Then I just started scribbling. I knew I wanted to make the drawing look textured, so I scribbled small circles along the line of the square, gradually moving outward making larger and larger loops until I reached the edge of the page. I then repeated this process several times, giving the outer layers less ink coverage and making sure the inner ones were almost completely covered. As much as the piece was about passion, the making of it was rather soothing. I had planned on going over it with a brush pen for an ink wash effect, but after I was finished drawing, I liked how it looked so much that I decided to leave it as is.

I'm a huge Kaweco fan (if you couldn't tell from my past Monday Matchup pen selections). However, I hadn't tried eye droppering one before. It was surprisingly easy! I loved watching the ink swirl around in the back end of the pen as I was drawing with it. I absolutely need the added ink capacity- I went through about half of it while making my loops! The smooth nib made the repetitive nature of the work soothing and satisfying. Obviously, I loved the ink. It's just a great, vibrant, pink hue with good flow and saturation. However, when I opened the box, there was a really strange smell. I washed the bottle off and it went away immediately. Don't know what that was about, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Honestly, I don't think I'd change a thing if I were to do this work again! It was one of the most simple Monday Matchups I've done, but I loved the process of creating it and how it turned out. I plan on doing some more quotes in varying sizes to put up in my house.

This pen and ink is too loud for the office, but it would work well for journaling, art, or letter writing. I could see it really working out for bullet jouraling, especially for headers or items you wanted to draw attention to. It definitely stands out against the page!
