Kaweco Paradise Blue Cartridges with a Conklin Minigraph: Monday Matchup #151

A Ralph Waldo Emerson quote written with Kaweco Paradise Blue fountain pen ink and a Conklin Minigraph Baltic Blue fountain pen.
Happy Monday fountain pen enthusiasts! My turn for Monday Matchup rolled around and I chose to use the new Conklin Minigraph paired with Kaweco Paradise Blue cartridges. I was super curious to see how this tiny pocket pen would perform!

I had my son back in November, and I've been thinking on the traits and qualities I want to teach him by example, and this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson sums it up perfectly. I originally started out wanting to draw feathers, but found out they are a lot harder to draw than I was anticipating, so I switched to arrows. Arrows seem to be very popular right now as decor and I'm seeing them all over in prints and design, so it was easy to search for arrows on Pinterest to get some inspiration.

I started by writing out the quote with the Minigraph. I focused on the "b" in the quote and then kept the rest of the lettering pretty simple. I added the arrows after everything was done and left it aside over the weekend. I decided I wanted to add something else to the opposite side of the page, so I was back on Pinterest trying to get some more inspiration. I drew some lighthearted whimsical dandelions, and I'm happy with how they came out. Overall, there really isn't a strong theme with this Monday Matchup, but that's ok with me.

I really enjoyed the nib on the Conklin Minigraph. But boy, this pen is super tiny! I originally was going to use bottled ink with it, and totally forgot that it does not take a converter, so I grabbed cartridges. The Kaweco Paradise Blue cartridges match the color of the pen so nicely, and flowed well in the Minigraph. Because this pen is so small, I found it a bit uncomfortable to use for an extended period of time while sketching, but used as a pocket or purse pen for quick note taking, I think this would be fantastic. I used the Leuchtturm sketchbook paper which is much thicker than the Rhodia or Mnemosyne I usually use, but it held the ink just fine. I could see anyone who is on the go, really enjoying this pen.
