Monteverde Erinite with a Monteverde Giant Sequoia Green: Monday Matchup #150

Hey there, darling fountain pen friends, it’s Lydia, back again with another Monday Matchup for you. This week, I had the pleasure of playing around with some lovely Monteverde Erinite ink and a Monteverde Giant Sequoia fountain pen in Green. Keep reading to hear about what inspired this piece, how I created it, and what I thought of this pen & ink combo.

Upon seeing this ink for the first time, I was inspired to do an Irish theme. Ever since I was little, I could remember my grandparents singing “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” and it always makes me smile so I decided to pay homage to that. I started by tracing the shamrock pattern onto the paper. Then I filled a Caran d’Ache Brush pen with water and dipped it in the ink to lay down an ink wash for the background. It almost feels like painting, it’s so therapeutic. I let it dry for 20 minutes, after which I started working on the shamrock. I traced the outline, then sketched inside between the lines. I wanted to blend it in a little bit, so I grabbed the brush pen again and went over the shape. To finish, I wrote out the quote.

I enjoyed using this pen. I have an affinity for larger pens and this fit very nicely in that range. I would probably recommend using it unposted if you don’t have large hands, as it can get a bit long and heavy when posted. If I were to do this again, I’d use it unposted to see if it minimized my hand fatigue when going over the lines to darken them. The ink is gorgeous. I love the color and it flowed beautifully.

This pen would be great for any task. It is a smooth writer and looks reserved enough to use in an office or keep out on a desk, but the fun green coloration makes it a real eye catcher. This is a great pen for journaling or letter writing too because it is very comfortable in the hand. The ink is probably better saved for letter writing or journaling because it is a bit loud for a professional setting. It may also be a good choice for note taking if you need a different color to shake things up.
