Lamy Pearl Al-Star, new for 2013

Here it is! The newest Lamy Al-Star, in Pearl.

It’s really more of a champagne color, almost an exact match for my and Rachel’s two (that’s right, two) gold Pontiac Azteks:
The Goulet Aztek Pair

It’s a pleasant color, nothing flashy, but just pleasant. It’ll come available from Lamy with a steel nib in extra-fine through broad, but you can swap the nibs (check out my video here) to get a black extra-fine through broad, or a steel 1.1mm, 1.5mm, or 1.9mm italic. It comes with a single Lamy Blue cartridge, but can accept a Z24 or Z26 converter for use with bottled ink.
These pens are supposed to be available in the US by early-March, check around for availability in other countries. They’ll be priced the same as the other Al-Stars, list price of $47 (sells for $37.60 on They technically aren’t a limited edition, they’re considered a part of the regular line. So there’s no huge rush to pick one up…unless you just can’t wait πŸ˜‰
What do you think? I’d love to know…

the front licence plate or sun blockers or… it's like in bedrooms: one has the left space, the other one has the right space. πŸ™‚

But how do you tell who's car is who's?

  • Wildoaklane

I love the color! But since I usually match ink to pens, wonder what will look loveliest?

  • apsfive

I'm a little fascinated/bewildered with the matching cars as well! Was it a BOGO?

  • snedwos

Black. This is a black ink pen if ever there was one. And I don't even like black…

They are roomy, place for a family or, place for packages to be delivered to USPS so they can be shipped to clients living in far away lands… cars can't always be choosen by their looks, and not everybody likes the same things anyway. πŸ˜‰ It's like the pens, different colors & shapes for different people. πŸ™‚

  • The Aztek even when made was a heck of a deal. I'd imagine you can get them for a song these days. Cheap cars means lower overhead for you and me. πŸ˜‰

When do we get a video review of the Aztec

  • snedwos

Trouble is, won't the Aztek make you look like a meth dealer?

  • FraijoManda

This is super pretty! Can't wait for this color!

  • Lori

The color looks very pretty. And good for the Goulet's for buying American made (Ametican companies) cars. I have a Chevy Malibu in desert sand (maybe). It's darker but a great car.

  • Nicky

    I think it's a really nice colour.

  • Now see, this one I like (compared to the fluorescent yellow Lamy Safari). I could honestly consider buying this.

  • So wait, you wouldn't consider the Neon Yellow? πŸ˜‰

  • Well, one has tires with white lettering, the other does…the license plates are different…so that covers all 4 sides of the car! Now I can't tell you how many times I put the wrong key in once I'm sitting in the car….

  • It really would, actually! I wish I'd thought to throw one on there in the video, but it was too little too late. I was under a deadline to shoot it and I don't have the pen anymore.

  • Haha…I don't mind the jabs, I definitely knew what I was getting into when buying this car the first go-round. Now, I just delight in being made fun of for it, hence the second one πŸ˜‰ The truth is, I have two kids, and as ugly as these cars might be they are incredibly practical and I'm avoiding a minivan! Plus, because everyone thinks they're ugly, they're a friggin' steal, which is the real reason I bought it in the first place.

  • Well, when I tell most people I have an online fountain pen company, they assume is some kind of drug front anyway, so….

  • Hey, our newest one is a 2003 and it only had 34,000 miles on it. I got it for about 1/5 of a new SUV, what's wrong with that?

  • Let's be real here, I didn't buy the Aztek because it was my first choice on looks, but dang it if it isn't the most practical vehicle I've ever had. I've driven SUV's I've liked more (I had a brief stink with a jacked up Ford Excursion!), but this one is quite utilitarian and it's comfortable for both me and my wife to drive, something we've never had in another vehicle.

Black and ivory is just such a classy combination… I will be getting one of these, definitely. What's the nicest, smoothest, richest non-Noodler's black, so I buy them together when the time comes. (Sadly, Noodler's inks are expensive in Europe.)

  • Aurora Black is a good alternative, if you have that near you. J. Herbin Perle Noire is also good.

  • Tony

I have to comment on the matching Aztek…matching, A-z-t-e-k… Never thought it would be possible. And they are gold too. You've got panache, I give you that.

But kidding aside, Do you know if there are ways to make Lamy pens taking international cartridges, you know, like Platinum does? It seems to be a rather easy thing to do, but I don't recall seeing one as such.
