Sneak Peek: Pilot Metallic Vanishing Points!

We’re thrilled to reveal an upcoming new product from Pilot: the Metallic Vanishing Point. While we haven’t yet seen it in real life, these five metallic body colors are a bright deviation from the cool muted colors of the existing line.

From top to bottom: Copper Red, Mountain Blue, Valley Green, Tropical Purple, and Desert Orange.

The Metallic VP comes with matte black trim and a matching retractable black 18k nib, in nib sizes extra-fine, fine, medium, or broad. You can choose a rhodium or gold colored nib instead, but the black nib would be ideal to match the trim.

The price is the same as the existing line of Vanishing Points, at a list price of $175 (our price at GouletPens.com will be $140), and is expected to launch in mid-May here in the US.

What do you think? Are you as excited as we are?

Those are out and out gorgeous! I have a Goulet gift certificate and have been waiting for the new TWSBI Economy or Mini-Vac. Now, I’m not so sure. These beauties are calling to me (especially the Copper Red and Desert Orange).

    • snedwos

I’ve just blown my gift certificate. On an Edison, so not complaining.

    • I guess it’ll just depend which pens come available first! πŸ˜‰ Seriously, all good choices.

    • Ooo, toughie! Well, wait until I get a video out on these. I haven’t seen them in person yet, but I have a feeling they’re gonna look awwwwesome!

My VP has been a wonderful pen for over a dozen years and saw daily use for most of those years before I retired. I still love it and it can sit for two weeks with no trouble starting.

    • Thanks for sharing that, TJ! The VP is an indisputable workhorse.

Mountain Blue looks temptingly close to Grabber Blue. Might have to break down and finally buy a VP when that comes into stock.

    • You’ll have to get one of these to match πŸ˜‰

Damn it. My favorite pen is the VP, and now that I have to budget pinch, these beautiful finishes come out. Please, please tell me these are not limited editions but regular line additions. I want one of each.

    • Luckily no, they’re part of the regular line πŸ™‚ Start saving your pennies!

Nice! I can see that purple one being a very big seller.

    • I can too, it seems to be getting a big reaction so far. Purple’s hot!

Orange is my favorite color, and not just if I had to pick a favorite, but it is a major part of me. Everything I have is orange if possible. This is a hard color to love in terms of products, because orange is not standard, so having an orange vp to go with my 0.9mm cursive italic stealth vp and orange Rhodias is a dream come true. Not even a decision I have to make, it’s simply my pen. Many people will own orange vanishing points, but please understand that they are all mine, even if they are in your possession. It must be nice having blue be your favorite color Brian, since everything has a blue option, even the sky. Live it up. Blue… is that even a color?

    • Haha, oh the woes of an orange lover! Yeah, I have to admit that life’s pretty good when you love cerulean blue.

If possible, consider a “hand feel’ comparison to VP’s in other finishes when you do a review – smooth aluminum finishes like these (I’m assuming they’re anodized) can feel a little slick or slippery to my hand. One of the reasons I’ve stuck to the black “Carbonesque” finish is how nice it feels – just a little texture.

    • Freddy

Good point. I never thought of that but it would make a great comparison in your video, if possible, Brian.

    • Well, they’re definitely not going to feel like the carbonesque because they aren’t textured like that, but I can talk about that in my vid.

Interesting. Seems several companies are trying out black trim this year.

    • No doubt b/c they’ve had such great success with the Black Matte VP and Gun Metal with Black Matte accents.

I wonder how broad the broad nib is – any thoughts? I sold my Vanishing Point because I’m a solid medium/broad nib person (not to mention the clip was in an odd and annoying place).

I have been waiting foooorrrrreeeevvvveeeerrrrr for a bright green vanishing point. I wasn’t exactly planning on black trim, but I’m kind of excited about a black nib.

    Purple rocks!
