  • Hi Brian,
Ever since I injured my dominant hand (lefty by birth) I had to relearn to write with my right. Fountain pens helped me to write better by forcing me to take the time to write slowly. They have helped teach me patience which I certainly did need to overcome the injury. Other pens just don't seem to encourage improvement in the same way. Thanks for the opportunity to win another fantastic pen!

I love writing with fountain pens because they always allow me to express and create with my own personality behind each character. From extra fine to broad nibs, cartridge refills and bottled ink, each customized choice showcases a layer of who we are and what we are expressing in that exact moment. The lines they produce make both a timeline of written record as well as a visual thumbprint of our unique identity.

  • Beyond the smooth writing characteristics of a good fountain pen, they harken back to times when correspondence was the only means to stay in touch with loved ones or present yourself to professional peers. Handwriting, presentation, and composition were all important; and a fine writing implement certainly helped. The words and ideas were more considered and elegant in form as well as meaning. Using a fountain pen now is a tactile way to reach back to those times.

I love writing with a fountain pen because it just makes writing special again. Instead of typing a message on my mobile, I sometimes like to write it with a fountain pen in some fancy colour, add a little drawing and send a picture of that to the recipient. Or I'll write a note for a friend and hide it somewhere so that they'll find it later. I really enjoy that and the act of writing is just so much more fun with a fountain pen!

  • I love the elegance of writing with the fountain pen. The way one can control the wet ink flowing through the nib and the smoothness while writing and watching the ink getting soked in the paper. It gives you complete freedom over the inks as we have a lot of different colours available plus I also try to customise by combining two or more inks to provide myself with a new colour while drawing. Its an absolute delight to draw and write with a fountain pen.

  • The benefits of fountain pens are endless. For me, being able to write without applying pressure allows me to take quick notes and write long sessions without becoming fatigued. That paired with limitless color options provides an experience that makes me look forward to classes and writing rather than loathing the experience of say a ballpoint. I have owned 3 fountain pens up to this point, all within Brian Goulet's noobie list. This e-motion would be my next step up. Cheers!

Fifteen years ago, my mom gave me a dark grey pen with a funny looking nib one random day. Says it's something she found in her office. I didn't quite know how to use that pen back then, so I left it in my drawer.

About 5 years ago, I was rummaging through the drawer and came across the same pen. An idea popped into my head about using the pen to write with lemon juice for a magic trick of some sort. Didn't quite work out well. But what I did discover was what a joy it was writing with a fountain pen. Laying down beautiful effortless lines, therapeutic pen care sessions, and writing smoother than a baby's bottom.

That's why I love writing with a fountain pen. All the nice things one can say about writing fancy plus a little reminder of how my mom provided for me growing up.

That pen turned out to be a Lamy Safari Matt Black. And no, it wasn't ruined by the lemon juice.

Also ink looks so amazing on paper, even a shopping list becomes more beautiful. 🙂

I love writing with a fountain pen because of so many reasons: the skating across the page, that characteristic scratch that let's know when you're out of ink, the weight of the pen dropping through the crotch of your thumb, the smell of new ink. I remember the first time I wrote my first fountain pen short story. It felt, and still feels, so much more thought out. Writing with a fountain pen gives you an only-then intimacy not only with the page, but with the words you put down; every word with my fountain pen isn't the monotonous line of technology's mark on writing. It becomes art.

  • I love fountain pens not for writing, (although that is also fun) but for drawing. The smoothness and line quality of a fountain pen is unmatched by any other medium. The brilliancy of using ink as a wash or to color in general gives a piece vibrancy and life. That is why I love fountain pens.

What do I love about writing with a fountain pen? Beyond the huge variety of pen bodies and nib sizes and types, and the nearly infinite ink color and flow options, I think what I love most is the ergonomics. My grip has relaxed by orders of magnitude since taking up fountain pens because I don't need the kind of pressure on the page. but I love the character one can display with a good pen, the right nib, and the perfect ink.

I love writing with fountain pens! My friend at school introduced me to them and now I'm obsessed!! They are so smooth. Being able to write with all the colors is engaging. And I love the different kinds of lines you can get. Thank you for supplying me with information and pens!!

  • I can remember all the way back in elementary school being disappointed with the writing instruments at my disposal. Especially as I got older, I craved a form and function that I could not seem to find. Dark gel pens like the G2 at least gave me the rich, bold color I wanted, but something about them still fell short.

Enter my fine point Pikot Metropolitan. Simple, elegant, affordable, and fantastic. Even with a very entry level pen, the game was changed in a big way. The stock Namiki black cartridge was bold and laid down crisp and clean. The feel was altogether different, in a very, very good way. And there was something intangible about using a fountain pen that made the experience so different and so much more satisfying. And we're not even talking about all the incredible options! I can't see myself ever going back.

  • I love writing with fountain pens for many reasons, but my top 3 are probably 1. They are a tie to earlier times when writing was more than just punching into a keyboard, 2. The amazing ink variety, you can always find something to strike your fancy, and 3. It makes me slow down and take a moment in my life to truly appreciate what I have.

  • Thanks for the giveaway! I love writing with fountain pens because of the limitless ink options!

  • Fountain pens are great b/c they give the writing so much character! 😊

  • I love fountain pens for being so darned analog. I work with computers all day … It's nice to get away sometimes. I also enjoy analog watches, slide rules and other assorted old world things. Pens were absolutely figured out and didn't need ball points. (Can't really say the same about calculators vs slide rules …). I know this sounds silly, but I feel connected to my 1860s era ancestors (whose handwriting I've seen in a couple cases) when I draw from an inkwell and write something unnecessarily swirly and pretty.

  • Fountain pens make writing anything special whether it is a letter to a dear friend or just taking notes.

I just love how smooth it feels and how many different options and affect that can happen. Its all so intresting and I would love to dive much deeper into the fountian pen world.

  • I am new to writing with a fountain pen but I love it already! There's an ease and fluidity that is not found in a ball point pen. I find my self going for my pen now over typing. I also feel it connects me to a past time. I love to read and when a book talks about a character writing with a fountain pen or how the ink spilled I understand and connect more with that book as well as get super excited that I use one too!

  • When I'm using a fountain pen I feel like I am able to express myself better. Something about wet ink on paper its timeless. When you write its permeniant you can't just delete it you have to rewrite it so you think about what you are trying to say more.

  • Rebekah McComas

Writing is a very tactile experience. The physical interaction of your thoughts and the paper. Like many similar interludes, the experience should be one of great pleasure. Fountain pens offer a very intimate writing experience. From the give or resistance of the nib, to the type of line created. The pleasure is experienced physically through your hand, visually through your appreciation of shape and shading and viscerally as everything comes together to produce a very personal satisfaction with the entire writing process.

  • Whit Guynes :)

fountain pens make my writing go from illegible chicken scratch to legible chicken scratch. I didn't think "filling a container with liquids" could be so gratifying until I bought my first converter pen.

Using, discovering and sometimes breaking fountain pens as we engage in and with them connects us all together and to the history that makes up fountain pens. It's like a link to a past era that isn't in the past because we still use these devices and the industry that makes these pens is thriving. It's a wonderful feeling. -Dustin B

  • Fountain pen writing takes me to a time and place where writing on luxurious papers and inks were more of the norm. Maybe I romanticize writing with a fountain pen because I love receiving handwritten letters. I love examining the character that a fountain pen lends to a person's writing. "Oh, did he stop writing for a little because he was thinking?" The ink tells me so because the gradation is ever so slightly different.

Writing with fountain pens is a sort of ice breaker with my family from far flung places. I've discussed a good bit regarding fountain pens with aunts and uncles who remember growing up with them and younger cousins who are excited to practice writing the alphabet beautifully. I love fountain pens and writing with them because it's helped me bond with all sorts of people I would not have otherwise!

Thanks Goulet Pens for a pentastic(!) giveaway!

I love that writing with a fountain pen slows you down a bit and so your writing becomes a bit neater.

    • Forget to leave me name – Liz J.

  • I like fountain pens for the traditional feel and the art feel to the writing.

  • (Sorry if this is a repost! My first post didn't seem to show up!)

Writing with a fountain pen takes me to a time when luxurious papers and inks were more of the norm. I may romanticize writing with a fountain pen because I enjoy receiving handwritten letters. And when a letter is written with a fountain pen I can analyze it more fully: "Looks like he was thinking here!" "The ink looks flowing here! Must have had thoughts flowing as freely as the ink!" All from little gradation in color of the ink.

Writing with fountain pens has helped me connect with all sorts of people who I wouldn't have otherwise connected with. Young people who are interested because of the artistry of the written letter and older people who reminisce of a time when screens did not rule.

Thank you Goulet Pens for a pentastic(!) giveaway!

  • Hi

I have always been inspired by your giveaways, and after seeing this pen I got interested in getting a stealthy black pen.

  • I love using fountain pens because each has its own personality…some write freely and fluidly, others need some coaxing and yet then write as if they are an extension of your own hand. I have only one, and it was gifted to me, and it is precious to me. I would like to try others…I used to have several but they came up missing she we moved, smile.

  • I like to learn new things. I have always been embarrassed by my terrible handwriting. When I ordered my first pen from Goulet I wasn't too sure I would use it much. I have since bought a few more pens, inks, and paper for me and my family. I have made it a goal to practice my handwriting daily and I am now keeping a small journal. Though I still have a ways to go, I am able to see a huge difference. Thank you Goulet Pens.
