I think I gotta go with Top 7 Fountain Pen Wins with a shout out to the Ryder Carroll interview. I also loved the Blue Flame Monday Matchup Time Lapse where the flame seems to catch fire. (Plus my sister won that pen and ink). Thanks for so much great content.

    • Lydia At Goulet Pens

Thanks! Those are some pretty fun picks!

  • Mary Ellen Litzinger

I’ll go with the Top 7 Fountain Pen Wins, although I’ll add # 8 to the list: Having the opportunity to interact with the Goulet Pen Company Support Team. I’m a newbie to the fountain pen world, and the advice and support I’ve received from the GPC team is astounding. Thank you so much everyone. You are # 1 on my list of Fountain Pen Wins!

    • Lydia At Goulet Pens

      Thank you, Mary Ellen!

Impossible to choose! They all are great! The Quick Looks, Ink Tests, tips… So many to choose! I think my answer is all of ’em. I agree with MP about the Blue Flame Time Lapse. That one is amazing. It’s what convinced me to try shimmering inks. Now I need a bottle of Emerald of Chivor! I love all of the videos! By the way, how’s the move going? Moving from house to house is bad enough, but a business! I can’t imagine the stress.

    • Lydia At Goulet Pens

The move has gone fairly smoothly. Now we’re just settling in. The hard part is behind us. Now on to the excitement of our first Monday in the new office.

I’ve been a fan of your site for many years, but I’ve never seen the ink videos. Are they just on your youtube site or are they also linked somewhere on your website? Very helpful videos!

    • Tom Johnson

Mike, go to the upper right of this page and find the “Blog Index”. Then select “Ink Reviews”. You will see a list of all ink reviews. You can view all the videos and many other things from Goulet Pens from this blog without ever going to YouTube. I never go to YouTube for the Goulet videos, much easier to find what I’m interested in the blog here, using the links above and the excellent search engine.

      • Mike P.

Thanks, Tom, but I still don’t see the videos under “Ink Reviews” that are included in this post. For example I can’t find Ink Test – Diamine Pink Glitz under Ink Reviews in the Blog Index. The only pink I see is Pelikan Pink. Am I still looking in the wrong place? Mike

        • Tom Johnson

Mike, apparently the ink reviews the link goes to are all non-video reviews. Other than this blog I don’t know if there is another listing. You could bookmark this blog until these are archived. I know if you do a blog search for an ink it should come up, but so will every blog mentioning that ink. Maybe Goulet will incorporate this list of video reviews with the “ink reviews” list soon.

          • Lydia At Goulet Pens

Tom is correct, there is no library for the ink test videos. They are on the product pages for their respective inks, but I like the idea of having a library. I will have to suggest that for sure and see if we can get that up.

    • Lydia At Goulet Pens

We don’t have a library for the videos, but they are all collected, along with some Monday Matchup videos, in this Goulet Creative playlist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX2Pj7kAjyY&list=PLBIMk8KEni_nCxIbEMd9P8HTnZqZg4Pyi

I really like that brown pen in the picture above. Can you please tell me maker & model? Thanks!

  • Tom Johnson

Like David L., I cannot choose one let alone several favorites, though this one here is definitely a favorite, there are many more. I always love the Quick Tips, pretty much all of the videos.

Hi Goulet people. I hope the move has gone great. I had a couple of questions for Brian or any of you experts, if you’ve any time to consider them.
    i) I love dark gray ink, my favourite being Diamine Graphite… but that ink always remains smeary. Even days later, if I run my fingers over it… smears. Can you recommend any other dark gray inks (darker than Faber-Castell Stone Grey which runs and dries great, but is a little ‘warm’ and a light for me)? Even better would be if any recs have the slight ‘khaki’ tint of the Graphite.
ii) It’s inexpensive but I love the Platinum Carbon Ink Desk Pen but the desk stand (one- and two-pen) that goes with it I think is – to be honest – cheap and nasty looking. Any recommendations for other nicer desk-stands that these pens would fit into? Thank you.
(btw, Brian didn’t mention the Platinum Desk Pen or the Rotring Art Pen as examples of _tapered_ shapes in his run-down of FP shapes. Not a fan? I like that shape a lot though it’s not very practical for EDC)

    • It’s not as dark as the Graphite but if you’re willing to consider a slightly lighter gray, take a look at Noodler’s Lexington Gray. This is one of my favorite inks and is a wonderful warm gray, with that “khaki” tint. It’s also lightfast, water resistant and fast drying.

Your ii) – I too love the wonderful Platinum Desk pens. The first one I bought several years ago is an EF and I got the desk stand for it too. The second one is a M, and I don’t have a desk stand for it. My stand is the older all black stand, and I don’t think it is that cheap looking. Perfect tension swiveling, and the pen can sit in it for weeks without drying out, though it is only sitting under its own weight. No friction or threads, so the tulip must be a very good fit to be airtight. As to other desk-stands fitting the Platinum – I think it is a hit-or-miss. Stands are not generic, they are made for specific pens and if they do not fit well the pen will dry out in a few hours.

My vintage Sheaffer Snorkel desk pens are threaded, and the pen screws in to make a tight seal. It would be pure luck finding one with an interior geometry suited to the Platinum. I looked at mine, and cannot tell how the tulip/swivel is attached to the base. I think it may be glued. You are risking a few $$, but you could buy the desk stand and see if you can remove the tulip from the base and glue it to a nicer base. I’ve seen marble and glass bases for old desk pens that do not have the pen. The tulips for the Sheaffer desk pens lift right out of a hole in the base. You could glue the Platinum tulip to one of these. Some nice flat paper weights would work too. Hope this helps.

Great round up!! For me it’s definitely the interview with Ryder Carroll. I actually did a little blog post about it here. It was the push I needed to get my BuJo cap on 🙂 xo Cheetarah
