**WINNER: Sarah D. (Entered on Twitter). Check back next week for another awesome Monday Matchup Giveaway**

Hey there, fountain pen peeps, it’s Lydia. I’m back this week with another fun and festive Monday Matchup for you this week. It’s the beginning of spring training in the Major League Baseball world and, for me, that means the whole world comes alive again. Read on to hear about my experiences with the Monteverde Regatta Sport Blue with a Medium nib and Organics Studio Nitrogen ink, as well as my inspiration for this grand slam piece complete with some great sheen!

When I was reflecting on this exciting time in my year and the return of my beloved Red Sox to my TV screen, I began to think about how excited I am to share in this season with my boyfriend. We have already made plans to go to a few Major League games this season/ summer. He is so supportive of my obsession with the game, even though he himself isn’t as big of a fan. I was sitting at my desk thinking about inspiration for this round of Monday Matchup and I really wanted to do something about baseball but also my heart is overflowing with love so I was torn. Then it hit me like the crack of the bat as it makes contact with the ball! I was reminded of one of my favorite Olsen Twins movie growing up, It Takes Two. The quote says “You know the feeling when it’s the bottom of the ninth, the bases are loaded, and you know the next one’s coming right down the middle. And then, you just connect… and for an instant, you know that it’s going over the fence and out of the park… and further than you could ever imagine.” For some reason, this quote has always stuck in my mind as the epitome of what true love feels like. Since I was a little girl, I have dreamt of finding my prince charming who inspires that “over the fence, out of the park” kind of exciting love in me. I could not possibly sum up a better explanation of my perfect love story and I’m so lucky to have found it for myself.

To begin, I did a test run of writing out the quote. Originally, I was going to only do the quote with a few small drawings amongst the text. However, this notebook just called for me to do a two-page spread so I changed my plans and started over. I wrote out the quote and drew in the doodles as I went. I wanted to do a piece with a good deal of text so you can get a sense of how the pen writes as well as sketches. I also love the look of the more casually written out quotes with doodles thrown in. Once I completed the quote, I grabbed a waterbrush pen and created the ink wash on the opposing page from the quote. I love the dimension and color variations this Organics Studio ink gives. It is very saturated and gorgeous. I let that dry for a few hours and then drew in the baseball freehanded. I tend to think I’ve drawn so many baseballs, it’s second nature to me and yet, I still can’t get the stitches quite right. Oh well, I tried. This Monteverde Regatta Sport was a joy to use through the whole process though.

This pen would be great for any task. It has a solid construction, easy to use, secure magnetic cap, and stylish, unique design. It is not too heavy and would be comfortable for short or long writing sessions. I think it would fit in the office, school, or most other settings. It could even be good for the more rugged type. This ink has a pretty long dry time so I would recommend it for note taking or anything quick. It is gorgeous for drawing though. The sheen is out of this world. I love it and was quite mesmerized by it.
