Congrats to @BlueStu424 on Instagram on his win!

Hi there, fountain pen friends! Andi here, and this week, I’m excited to bring you my matchup of the Kaweco Classic Sport- Blue and Robert Oster Thunderstorm. Read on to hear my thoughts on this pen and ink, hint: it was great!

My inspiration for this piece came from a recent backpacking trip where I brought along my own Kaweco Sport. One thing you should know about me, I love doing things outside! Whether it be camping, kayaking, or even taking my dog for a walk, I’d much rather be outside than indoors. I also enjoy recording with video, but when it comes to backpacking, light travel is key! I had been backpacking before where I was stupidly caring around a 3lb battery pack to charge my Go Pro equipment on a backpacking trip. Wrong move! So when I recently went on a weekend backpacking trip, I decided to record my day in a notebook instead of digitally. When I thought about what pen to bring I decided on the Kaweco Classic Sport, great decision! It was so lightweight and compact, I would definitely recommend this for people who love to do backpacking.

I knew I wanted to create something that showed my love for the outdoors so I took to Pinterest for inspiration. I found a lot of cute illustrations of campgrounds, mountains, tents, moons, tents in moons, the list goes on and on. Once I got my inspo, I did a couple of pre-doodles to work out the kinks and just started drawing. I wanted distinct differences in the ink. This ink can really layer well and help with contrast, I grabbed a brush pen and used that to water down some of the spots I had shaded in. I also dipped the brush pen directly into the ink to get a nice saturated night sky. Once that was done, I wrote in a quote I found that seemed to tie into the theme.

I really liked the pen and ink. As I explained above, the pen itself is great for backpacking. It’s just lightweight, compact, and doesn’t get ruined easily since it’s made out of plastic (so a small fall will not destroy the pen). The fine nib is perfect for something as tiny as this pen is. I feel like it is great to just throw in a bag and use for just about any type of paper whether that be a notebook or receipt paper. I am also a big fan of Robert Oster ink. It is versatile in shading, so great for doodles. It also doesn’t take a hundred years to dry, which is great! This combo is perfect for basically everything. It’s a great go-to pen and the ink is not only beautiful in color, but is also good for a variety of situations.
