Goulet Guests: Marco Achenbach, Head of Product Management/R&D at LAMY

Back in December 2017, I had the opportunity to sit down with Head of Product Development/R&D Marco Achenbach while touring LAMY’s headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. Marco was a great sport, sitting down and doing an interview with me with very little notice, on a very tight schedule! He and I talked about what it’s like to design LAMY products, their approach to design and how they work with designers like Jasper Morrison, and where they plan to focus for the future. Let me know what you think of this interview in the comments below! Write on, Brian Goulet

Goulet Guests: Bernhard Roesner, CEO of LAMY

In December 2017, I had the distinct pleasure of getting to tour the LAMY headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. During my time there, I was able to sit down and interview LAMY's CEO, Bernhard Roesner. He was a fascinating man to interview because he has been running the company for over a decade, through one of their highest growth periods in the company's history. We discussed the company's history, size, their headquarters, where the brand is sold worldwide, what drives them to do what they do, German culture, product design and selection, and where they plan to take the fountain [...]

Goulet Guests: Brian Gray, Edison Pen Co.

This week’s Goulet Guest is a special one, because I was able to sit down with Brian Gray of Edison Pens while I was visiting him for the first time in Milan, Ohio. A bit of a different cadence than my other Goulet Guests, this is more of a casual conversation between the two of us with some guided questions along the way. We talk about each of our origins stories and business philosophies, Edison’s new space, their upgraded equipment, the size of their team, what it takes to design a pen, and what new Edison pens we can expect [...]

Goulet Guests: Spotlight on Jake Weidmann, Artist & Master Penman

At the 2017 DC Pen Show, I had the honor of sitting down and interviewing Jake Weidmann, artist and Master Penman. He's someone I've looked up to personally for several years, since I first discovered his TedX talk called Why Write? Penmanship for the 21st Century. His artistic talent is undeniable, he clearly has a gift for calligraphy, drawing, carving, sculpting, painting, and engraving. His signature is incorporating classic themes and lines from calligraphy into his art, especially animals and nature. At age 26, Jake became the youngest certified Master Penman in history, a designation given to a very [...]

Goulet Guests: Spotlight on Dan Bishop of Karas Kustoms

When I went to the Atlanta Pen Show a few weeks back, I was fortunate to be able to sit down with Dan Bishop of Karas Kustoms for a video interview. Dan is an absolute trip and I think you're really going to enjoy our banter. Dan and I have been in touch for the last several years.  He first reached out to me when he wanted to link GouletPens.com as an ink source on the Kickstarter page for their first fountain pen project, the Karas Kustoms Ink. We talked about working together and, about 6 months ago, they finally [...]
