Monteverde California Teal Ink Review

Hello ink friends! Kelsi here bringing you another ink review! This week I had the opportunity to review Monteverde California Teal, which I was pretty excited about because this ink has been one of my personal favorites ever since it came out. This lubricated ink flows so nicely, and the sheen is incredible! It even shows a decent amount of sheen on Rhodia and Moleskine paper. Read on to see why I love this ink.

Supplies Used:

Smear Test (Dry Time):

  • About 25 seconds – This ink took a while to dry, but it I wouldn’t say it was on the extreme side for a long dry time.

Drip Test (Water Resistance):

  • Low – It didn’t have much water resistance, and there wasn’t much evidence of ink left behind after the water touched it.

  • Medium – You could see a pretty good difference between swab #1 and #2 on the swab test, but not much between #2 and #3.

Ease of Cleaning:

  • Medium – I gave this a medium, mostly because it’s a darker ink so I needed to flush my converter a few times before it was totally cleaned out.

  • High – The shading in this ink is so lovely! I got some variation through the letters as I wrote.

  • Wet – This ink flowed really nicely out of my nib and even looked pretty wet as it sat on top of the paper. All of the Monteverde inks are lubricated, which helps them flow really well.

Packaging and Aesthetics:

  • Comes in both 90ml and 30ml bottle sizes. It reminds me of a bottle you would see a vintage ink come in.

I just really love this ink. I think the color is great because it’s not an outrageous color, so it could be appropriate in most settings, but it’s still different and fun. The sheen and the shading make it stand out!

You can find the 90ml and 30ml bottles of Monteverde California Teal at or in a pack of 12 cartridges. A 2ml sample is also available.
