Is It Teal or Turquoise?

Drew here. I’ve always had a hard time distinguishing between teal and turquoise. In our store’s massive selection of fountain pen ink, there are a ton of GORGEOUS tealy-turquoisey colors but I never know what to actually call them!

That changes today, though!

Because NOT ONLY am I going to select the definitive most perfect inks in this color category, I’m going to expertly categorize them - using my authority as a recent graduate of Drew’s Hues University.

[Goulet Pens' official disclaimer: Drew's Hues University is not accredited and his true authority on this subject matter is questionable at best. Also the following is all just for fun. You may proceed.]

The List:

Diamine Marine:

Alrighty folks, we’re going to kick things off with a Goulet Pen Company favorite, Diamine Marine.

But what is it? Well, I’m going to tell you. It’s actually Aqua. A gorgeous, wet & soggy aqua.

Diamine Turquoise:

Let’s hang out under the Diamine umbrella for a bit to take a look at Diamine Turquoise so that we can decide if it truly is turquoise.

Nope. This color is, in fact, Pthalo. And yes - it is Pthalo because I wanted to say Pthalo.

Robert Oster Deep Sea:

Ok, we’re back under the sea now, with Robert Oster Deep Sea.

This reminds me a bit of the previous two. 3 parts Aqua and 5 tablespoons of Pthalo. So, Deep Sea is officially Aqualo. Look at me go. Also, I LOVE THIS COLOR.

Colorverse Gravity Wave:

Colorverse Gravity Wave is a beautiful color - and a worthy partner to Robert Oster Deep Sea, aka Robert Oster Aqualo.

We’re going to categorize this as…Pthaqua. There - now you know.

Noodler's Turquoise of the Mesas:

Is Nooder’s Turquoise of the Mesas really a turquoise?

NOPE. Clearly cobalt. Now you don’t have to feel weird calling this one turquoise. You’re welcome. That’s why I’m the authority here.

Private Reserve Blue Suede:

Taking a bit of Cobalt and a bit of Adriatic now - you’ve got Private Reserve Blue Suede.

I’m confident this color is in the Cobriatic color category. With all of the other Cobriatics we’ve added thus far.

LAMY amazonite:

LAMY amazonite is also undecided on whether or not it’s Cobalt or Adriatic.

So we’re going to solve its identity crisis by bestowing the title Adribalt upon it. It’ll still say LAMY amazonite on our website…but we’ll know.

Diamine Spearmint Diva:

Well, I’ll tell you what it ISN’T turquoise or teal. Diamine Spearmint Diva.

Because this shimmering, feisty ink is 100% Turqueal. Being honest with you though, I’m often in a Turqueal mood, so it’s good to know Spearmint Diva is here for me.

Sailor Yamadori:

Sailor Shikiori Yamadori really wanted to be teal....

... but decided that Tealquoise would impress the in-laws a bit more. I have to say I think it’s a smart move, given what happened last Thanksgiving. Sally forth, Tealquoise.

Diamine Havasu Turquoise:

For real though - I’m going to tell you which ink is at the absolute core of the Turquoise pantheon.

The most turquoisey of all the turqoisish inks is… Diamine Havasu Turquoise.

Steadfast and resolute its superiority over all Turquoises. There you go.

Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku:

However…! What about teal? Legends say “where there is the Ultimate Turquoise, the universes’ balance dictates that there must also be the ultimate Teal.

Lucky for the universe, I’m saying that it’s Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku.

It blindfolded itself with its own little ink bottle string and bested all other Teals in single combat. So honestly, this choice wasn’t even up to me!

That’s my list, don’t try to disagree with me, because I’ve declared myself the ultimate authority here.

Also, this is totally arbitrary and just for fun. I just wanted to show you some cool Teals and Turquoises and this seemed like as good an idea as any. So thanks for joining me!

You can find all of the above ink colors available in both bottles and samples on our store.
