Nathan’s at it again, creating another ground-breaking pen. He’s made changes based on the feedback and insane demand for the Noodler’s Flex Nib Pens, and has developed one of the most interesting and ingeniously simple pens around today.

You may already be familiar with the Noodler’s Flex Pens, which are considerably smaller than these new Ahab pens:

The Ahab pen is a completely different nib, feed, body, and filling mechanism than the original flex pen. It is still technically a ‘piston filler’, but it uses a push-type plunger instead of a screw-type.

Another great thing about this pen is that it’s easy to take apart for cleaning and adjustment. The whole thing breaks down easily, no tools required.

Now even though this pen is a plunger-fill, I was able to do a preliminary test filling it as an eyedropper by removing the whole plunger mechanism and filling the body (using silicone grease on the threads). I only did the test with water so far, but it held well and I was able to get close to 6ml of ink in this mammoth pen!
I know I didn’t cover the adjustment or writing test with these pens here, I will cover that in a future video/blog. If you want to see the man who created the pens, check out Nathan’s video here.
I was fortunate enough to get my hands on these pens for prototype/demonstration purposes, but they aren’t ready for distribution quite yet. I’m told to expect these to be available sometime around mid-October 2011, though that date could always (and most likely will) be pushed further back. One thing is for sure, they will not last long when they do arrive.
If you’re interested in getting an email notice when we get them in stock, sign up for our email notification list by putting your email on the ’email me when back in-stock’ list. Go here for Clear Demonstrator, here for Lapis Inferno. Because of overwhelming demand for these pens, we can’t pre-order or guarantee anything. Once we get them in, we’ll post a day or two ahead of time before we list them for sale at a specific time, and we’ll email everyone on our email notification list as soon as we put them in stock.
Noodler’s is ramping up production of these pens and the Nib Creaper Flex pens, and soon enough there will begin to be a steady flow of these pens streaming in. They will likely go quickly at first, but eventually, pen production will be able to meet the level of demand (unlike what we’ve seen in the last 10 months for the previous generation of flex pens).
So what do you think about the Ahab?
