A review of Diamine Blood Orange ink

Hi everyone! This week I had the chance to review one of my personal favorite inks, Diamine Blood Orange. I love this ink because it’s a great red-orange and I find it to be a really lovely and unique color. Read on to hear more of why I love it!

Supplies Used:

Smear Test (Dry Time):

  • About 35 seconds– The ink still smeared at 30 seconds, so it would have been dry around 35 seconds.

Drip Test (Water Resistance):

  • Medium – Some of the line was still visible after the water was applied, so I would say there is a small amount of water resistance to the ink.

  • Medium – I could see some distinction between swabs 1,2, and 3, but the ink was still pretty saturated looking with a single line.

Ease of Cleaning:

  • Medium – I had to flush my pen a number of times to get it completely clean. I notice this frequently with red and orange inks, so that may be the reason.

  • Medium – I definitely noticed some shading as I wrote! There was some really nice color variation in the lines.

  • Medium – This ink flowed really nicely and put down a wet line, but I wouldn’t say it gushed out or anything like that.

Packaging and Aesthetics:

  • This ink is one of Diamine’s “anniversary collection” inks, created to celebrate their 150th anniversary. The Anniversary inks come in really pretty triangular shaped bottles that create a full circle when you put 8 bottles together. They look really nice by themselves too!

Inks Similar in Color:

I had been on a search for the perfect red-orange ink for a while, and I knew I found it when I tried this one! I feel like the color is dark enough to be used in a variety of settings and it’s different enough from a standard red to stand out. I also love the little bit of shading you get with it!

You can find a 40ml bottle of Diamine Blood Orange at GouletPens.com for $15.95, or a 2ml sample is also available for $1.75.
